The Talk of the Town! Four Best Gourmet Spots in Oku-Shibuya in Tokyo
The area around Kamiyamacho and Tomigaya within ten minutes of Shibuya Station beyond Bunkamura-dori and Tokyu Honten is now attracting attention as "Oku-Shibuya." It has a sophisticated appeal with elegant cafes and bars, away from the hustle and bustle of the Center Gai area that is filled with youngsters. Here are the top four spots to visit in Oku-Shibuya.
- ＜1＞ CAMELBACK Sandwich & Espresso - An Outstanding Coffee Stand Created from the Merger of Two Unique Personalities
- ＜2＞ Fuglen Tokyo - the First Japan Outpost of an Oslo Cafe

＜1＞ CAMELBACK Sandwich & Espresso - An Outstanding Coffee Stand Created from the Merger of Two Unique Personalities
CAMELBACK in Kamiymacho, which retains vestiges of its working class past, is a coffee stand run by two best friends popular for its lattes and sandwiches. The drinks and food are primarily for takeout, but you can eat on the bench in front. Some people take the food out to enjoy in the park.
The Sushi Shop Egg Sandwich (410 JPY) is popular as an item made by an ex-sushi chef. The menu is creative, with items that have a Japanese flare.
This Immortal Latte (594 JPY, photo left), in which everything from the foam to the sweetness, aroma, and temperature is "fluffy," is the most popular item. The cold Americano, Camel Black (410 JPY, photo right), is also popular.
＜2＞ Fuglen Tokyo - the First Japan Outpost of an Oslo Cafe
Fuglen Tokyo is the first overseas branch of a coffee shop popular in Oslo, Norway. It is in a renovated house near the park. The shop is also a gallery for Scandinavian furniture where you can purchase interior items.
Freshly baked bread delivered every day from a bakery is displayed on the counter. The Skolebrød (460 JPY) is a Scandinavian bun filled with amaretto custard. Why not try it with the Aeropress Coffee (520 JPY)?
＜3＞SHIBUYA CHEESE STAND - Hugely Popular Fresh Cheeses
The fresh cheese specialty store, SHIBUYA CHEESE STAND, offers additive-free fresh cheese made with milk delivered directly from the farm every day. The fresh flavors are nothing but amazing. The shop is a casual and comfortable environment, and there is a workshop nearby.
In addition to the Burrata and Plenty of Tomato (1,680 JPY, photo top), the freshly made Mozzarella & Ricotta (640 JPY, photo bottom) are recommended.
＜4＞ Sebastian - Popular for Japanese Bento and Kakigori Shaved Ice
Sebastian, which has a huge following in Oku-Shibuya, is a simple restaurant that serves just bento boxes and kakigori shaved ice. The stylish restaurant that was previously a Spanish tapas bar gets lines for the bento boxes before noon, and starts serving the kakigori shaved ice at 1:30 pm.
The popular kakigori shaved ice with raw cheesecake, lemon, and mixed berry sauce (1,000 JPY). The bento boxes, such as the Chicken Breast Piccata (620 JPY), that comes in two layers with rice, are worth noting as well.
