Mix Häagen-Dazs Green Tea Ice Cream with a Tea Whisk!? A New Type of Cocktail Worthy of Notice

"Lounge & Dining G," on the first floor of Tokyo Marriott Hotel, is holding a special event in conjunction with Häagen-Dazs Japan till Friday, June 30. They are offering two types of jointly-developed cocktails, as well as "Happy Heart Afternoon Tea" (4,200 JPY/person, excl. tax; minimum order, two people).


The hotel's beverage manager, Toyokazu Yamamoto, comments, "Ice cream is a really difficult ingredient for cocktails. Our chief bartender created them after a lot of trial and error" in reference to the specially-created cocktails.

The "Japanese Garden - Matcha" (1,800 JPY, excl. tax) made with Häagen-Dazs Green Tea ice cream is particularly worth noting. Since the hotel has many guests from abroad, the cocktail was developed to express Japan's tea ceremony culture.

First, a cocktail of "The HAKUSHU Single Malt Whiskey" and a matcha-flavored Kahlúa liqueur is poured over green tea ice cream from a Japanese tea pot - similar to an affogato where espresso coffee is poured over ice cream.


The customer is encouraged to have a sip at this point, and then to finish making the cocktail by whisking it with a bamboo tea whisk as if making matcha tea. So the ice cream is the ice in conventional cocktails, and the tea whisk is the shaker.

This new type of Japanese cocktail gives the customer the opportunity to experience the change in flavors, as well as to participate in making the cocktail. We encourage you to try this sophisticated cocktail created by the slightly bitter yet light and sweet green tea ice cream and HAKUSHU.
