What is the Secret to Lawson Store 100's Delicous Yaki-imo?
Lawson Sore 100 locations nationwide sell about 10,000 yaki-imo per day, equaling around 200 tons per month!
The secret to the delicious aroma that wafts from the yaki-imo and permeates through the store lies in the specially made container that they are kept in, next to the registers.
The bottom of the heat-retaining case in which the yaki-imo are lined and stored up actually contains a far-infrared oven, which is where the sweet potatoes are slowly roasted over a long period of time. The result is premium yaki-imo with super concentrated umami and sweetness packed inside!
Have you ever been eating a large yaki-imo and wished for a change in flavor halfway through? For times like that, we recommend simply adding a sweet spread to your yaki-imo!
Sweet spreads are the perfect complement to yaki-imo, as they play on the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes.
Our top three sweet spread recommendations are VL Maple Jam, VL Peanut Cream, and VL Marmalade. Go for the Peanut Cream when you want something decadent and sweet, or the Marmalade when you want something a bit more fresh-tasting. The most dependable choice, though, has to be the Maple Jam. This fragrant and easily-spreadable jam will surely up the sweetness level of your yaki-imo!

Next, we would like to introduce a customization recipe that requires simply placing some toppings on a piping-hot yaki-imo.
Topping a yaki-imo with butter is an eternal favorite, but adding some VL Raisins to the mix takes it up another notch!
Nothing can compare to the richness and slight saltiness of butter that has melted and seeped into fluffy and piping-hot yaki-imo. Adding some sweet and sour raisins on top creates an even more refined tasting experience.
This complex blend of ingredients makes the perfect treat to give to yourself! So, we recommend digging into a yaki-imo with butter and raisins as a reward after completing a difficult task!

3. Cheese-based Toppings
Finally, we will introduce some options using everyone favorite ingredient: cheese. Here are a few different customization ideas all using VL Mozzarella Cheese as a base.
First, lets start with something on the sweet side. Sprinkle some VL Mozzarella Cheese on a yaki-imo and then toast in in a toaster oven for around 3 minutes.
Finish up the meal by squirting some Junsui Hachimitsu honey (as much or as little as you want) onto the melty cheese.
First you taste the mellow sweetness of the honey, and then the rich saltiness of the cheese spreads through your palate. Once you take the first bite of this sweet and salty treat, you won't be able to stop!
Cheese and honey is a fascinating flavor combination for many. It's so good, especially when paired with yaki-imo, that you will have to be careful not to eat too much!
Next, we will introduce some unique yaki-imo recipes using VL Pasta Sauce.
We will be using VL Aeru Pasta Sauce: Japanese-style Garlic Butter Soy Sauce, VL Aeru Pasta Sauce: Genovese, and VL Three Cheese and Bacon Fragrant Carbonara.
You may think it's strange to put pasta sauce on yaki-imo, or that each sauce will have too strong a flavor, but we guarantee that all these combinations taste great together and make for the perfect snack that you will want to enjoy with a glass of wine.
How to Make Them:
■ Using VL Aeru Pasta Sauce: Japanese-style Garlic Butter Soy Sauce or VL Aeru Pasta Sauce: Genovese
1: Sprinkle VL Mozzarella Cheese onto the yaki-imo and toast for 3 minutes in a toaster oven.
2: Drizzle the pasta sauce over the melted cheese, and then sprinkle on the garlic powder or dry basil packet that comes with the sauce.
■ Using VL Three Cheese and Bacon Fragrant Carbonara.
1: Spread the pasta sauce over the yaki-imo and then sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top, then toast in a toaster oven for 3 minutes.
2: Add black pepper to taste.
This is a simple preparation, but it will turn your yaki-imo into a stylish, Italian-inspired treat!
It's a great option to cut into bite-sized pieces and serve at a gathering, and you'll also want to try it paired with an alcoholic beverage if you like to drink.
It's great to be enjoyed on its own, or as part of a meal. Please use these tips to enjoy yaki-imo while they are in peak season!
