FamilyMart Discovery: What is the “Chill and Eat” Burger?!

Hamburgers are the go-to when you feel like eating junk food. Even I get an extreme craving for them sometimes, and I don't really eat them normally. Although there are a lot of fast food joints out there, like McDonald's, MOS Burger, and Freshness Burger, lately I’ve just been going to convenience stores, where I discovered an extremely unusual "hamburger." So here it is!

A New Addition to the “Chill and Eat” Series

This unusual-sounding hamburger is actually the “Chill and Eat Donut Burger (Custard and Whipped Cream)” (158 JPY (incl. tax)) that FamilyMart released on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

This is the latest addition to FamilyMart's popular “Chill and Eat” dessert series, which also includes a pie cornet and a French cruller. The donut burger consists of custard and whipped cream sprinkled with a chocolate and almond crunch and sandwiched between fluffy buns.

I’ve been seeing favorable comments here and there about this product online, like “the dough is fluffy”, “I went back for another one,” and “hard to eat but tasty.” So, I bought one too.

Can You Call It a Burger?

It certainly looked like one when I took it out of the package!

Just as the comments online were saying, the bun really was fluffy. The whipped cream was light and airy too, so the texture of the chocolate and almond crunch was accentuated. The sweetness was unexpectedly mild and tasty! However, it really was hard to eat! Cream was spilling out of the sides, and the bun was covered in powdered sugar, so my hands got messy. One of the hallmarks of a good burger is that you can eat it with your hands without getting messy, so it had me thinking, can you really call this a burger?

That might seem pedantic, but either way, I can't complain about the flavor! Go try one for yourself today!
