5 Yakiniku Restaurants in Okinawa Offering Delicious Local Wagyu Beef and Pork

Okinawa is famous for its delicious meat such as Ishigaki beef and Agu pork. Here are 5 yakiniku (grilled meat) places to consider.

1. Isayan

This yakiniku restaurant has a chic atmosphere and jazz flows as the background music. It is easy to access, within a 3-minute walk from Oroku Station, and you can eat the carefully-selected finest cuts of meat such as Okinawan wagyu and Agu pork. We recommend their three kinds of Okinawa wagyu beef (3,280 JPY (excl. tax)). If you try it with their light homemade sauce and wasabi, the taste will be unforgettable. Also Agu pork, a meat made from an endemic type of Okinawan pig, is a tasty marbled pork with very sweet, delicious fat. Try them when you visit Okinawa.

2. Harusah

This is a yakiniku restaurant in Hotel Nikko Yaeyama, where you can eat wagyu Ishigaki beef as well as Misaki beef, the local specialties of Ishigaki Island. The restaurant name "Harusah" means "farmer" in Okinawan dialect. Pretend you are a harusah, and harvest seasonal vegetables and Okinawan shima vegetables from the salad bar situated in the center of the restaurant and wrap them around meat to eat. The salad bar is all-you-can-eat. Enjoy it with two kinds of wagyu beef, topped with blended island salt and raw shikuwasa citrus as seasonings. Misaki beef kalbi marinated in a pot served with vegetables (1,250 JPY) is marinated in a secret sauce and is one of their specialties you don't want to miss.

3. Yakiniku-no Ganaha

A popular restaurant which even attracts visitors from afar is a place where you can enjoy a yakiniku buffet. The all-you-can-eat yakiniku is offered at 3,000 JPY for men and at 2,500 JPY for women (both excl. tax), and with this course you can stuff yourself with as much beef, pork, chicken, sausages, rice, and homemade beef soup as you like for 120 minutes! It comes with a salad bar as well. They offer an even better value all-you-can-eat plan for lunch, at 1,800 JPY for men and at 1,500 JPY for women (both excl. tax) for 90 minutes. It is because this restaurant is run directly by a butcher that you can enjoy fresh meat at a reasonable price. It's recommended for those who want to eat a lot.

4. Sakurazaka

Sakurazaka, located in a retro building about 70 years old, is a restaurant where the owner and staff grill meat for you over the counter. They only offer course menus with prices varying from 6,000 JPY to 15,500 JPY per person (incl. tax). High-class meat from the rare Ishigaki beef can be enjoyed, and Agu pork is offered at a reasonable price as well, since they have a special contract with distribution channels. Since they cook meat in front of your eyes, you can eat it perfectly grilled. They have few seats and it is reservation only.

5. Yamashirogyu

This is the only restaurant in the world where you can eat Yamashiro beef, the super first-class branded wagyu beef from Okinawa, any time you visit. Yamashiro beef has a fantastic balance of red meat and fat that will addict you once you try it. Even though Yamashiro beef is so exquisite, the course menu is reasonable. The course offered at 7,500 JPY ( per person has 8 types of yakiniku, or the course offered at 10,000 JPY ( per person with additional special parts such as chateaubriand, etc. They also offer 80 kinds of carefully-selected wine which go fantastically well with beef, and you can enjoy 30 kinds of wine by the glass. Why not make special memories in the private dining area with completely separated rooms? Since it is a famous restaurant, you should make a reservation for the private room of your choice.

5. Yamashirogyu
