Matcha, Hojicha, Black Tea! Seven Select Tea-Flavored Kakigori Shaved Ice

The season for the summer sweet, kakigori shaved ice, has finally arrived! This year, a variety of tea-flavored kakigori are popular, including the standard matcha, as well as hojicha, which has been gaining popularity for having little caffeine, and black tea that go well with fruits and sweets and make great syrups. Revel in the Rich Flavors that are a Testament to the Skills of the Tea Producer and Tea Master

Chasanraku, a tea room where you can enjoy carefully selected Japanese tea, has introduced a kakigori shaved ice using three teas of different types and producers. Notice the flavors handed down from Shimokita Chaen Oyama, a famous kakigori shop in Tokyo that ignited the espuma foam boom in the world of kakigori.

Shaved Ice with Matcha Espuma (1,500 JPY). The aroma of tea fills the mouth and the tea's natural bitterness and sweetness leaves a pleasant aftertaste. This is a kakigori shaved ice that you can enjoy as if you are drinking tea.

Very little sweetness is added so that the tea's natural sweetness and umami flavors come through. A syrup and anko red bean paste is served on the side.

Espuma is a mousse-like foam that is created by whipping up a liquid using a dedicated tool. It allows you to enjoy a unique fluffiness together with the ingredients' rich natural flavors.

There is zashiki and table seating with views of the courtyard.

The Bright Green Color Indicates Strong Flavors! A Matcha Shaved Ice with Rich Aroma and Flavors

KAHO is a restaurant and sweets cafe run by an owner with years of experience managing and cooking at a ryotei restaurant. The carefully made kakigori shaved ice is so voluminous it looks like cotton candy. The syrups that are made with love and care, including the bright green Matcha syrup, are outstanding.

Noko Uji Milk (1,080 JPY). Fluffy shaved ice that is piled high is served with matcha syrup and condensed milk. The slightly viscous matcha syrup has the perfect balance of a rich aroma, sweetness, and light bitterness.

Made just with plenty of matcha and elegantly sweet sugar syrup. It is not exposed to heat either.

The ice is warmed up just a bit to maintain the perfect hardness to create large stacks of thin, long and fluffy ice shavings.

The restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere with a counter and tables.

Enjoy Hojicha with Lemon and Milk

The kakigori shaved ice at Osaka Naniwaya made by the owner who trained at Naniwaya Sohonke in Azabu Juban, an established taiyaki shop, has unique combinations including ones with the shop's signature anko red bean paste. It is open till 10:00 pm, so you can stop by after drinks.

Hojicha Latte Gori (900 JPY/large, 800 JPY/small). Enjoy with plenty of slightly sweet Hojicha syrup. Homemade white bean paste made with carefully selected white azuki beans from Hokkaido is inside.

Once you've enjoyed the fresh taste with lemon, pour the condensed milk with no sugar over it and have a milk tea flavored kakigori shaved ice.

The interior with a counter and tai (sea bream) shaped tables. Enjoy the signature menu item, Taiyaki (150 JPY) as well.

Osaka Naniwaya

Made with Organic Tea Gentle on the Body and Soul

Shinshinsha is a cafe with a pottery school that serves items on tableware made on site. It is dedicated to choosing safe ingredients, and almost all of the fruits and other items used for the syrup are made organically without pesticides. Enjoy the natural flavors of the ingredients.

Hojicha Milk Kintoki (850 JPY). Served with a generous serving of an bean paste on top of shaved ice covered with a syrup made by brewing hojicha tea in milk. Add condensed milk as you like.

The shop decorated with classical furnishings and decorations is bright and comfortable. You can watch the pottery classes as well.

Shinshinsha

Aromatic Scent Wrapped in Fluffy Sweet Espuma

Garuru Kori opened in April 2016 as a sister cafe to Garuru Coffee, a suburban cafe popular in Senriyama. It specializes in kakigori shaved ice and serves creative kakigori made with its specialty coffee and seasonal fruit all year round.

Hojicha Soy Milk Latte Espuma (900 JPY). A kakigori shaved ice with hojicha and soy milk syrup poured on top. The kinako roasted soybean sauce in the shaved ice adds another dimension to the flavors.

Seating centers on the counter in front of the kitchen, which is comfortable for those stopping by on their own. At the back of the shop, there are table seats with a view of a park.

The Perfect Mix of Spicy Chai and Sweet Mango

ROCCA & FRIENDS is a cafe popular for its original teas that represent cities around the world and the cute baked goods. The kakigori shaved ice made with black tea is served in a large tea cup so that you can enjoy the melted ice that is left over as if you are drinking tea.

Espuma Kakigori of Mango and Royal Milk Chai Tea (1,200 JPY). A festive item with a flan of mango and passion fruit, homemade caramel, fresh cream, and fresh mango pieces in the shaved ice.

The stylish interior reflects the tastes of the owner, who is a designer, and is a comfortable space with a natural feel.

A Dessert with a Cool Flavor and the Scent of High Quality Black Tea

The kakigori shaved ice served in the sun-drenched lobby lounge, The Park, at Imperial Hotel Osaka, is a luxurious item created by the hotel's pastry chef. The shaved ice, made with crème anglaise to achieve a flan-like flavor, is served with an Earl Grey flavored flan.

Imperial Hotel's Kakigori (1,980 JPY). The generous pour of crème anglaise is slightly sweet and has a gentle flavor. Enjoy it mixed with the whole flan that is inside.

The 24m-high atrium of this lobby-lounge, which expresses the hotel's theme of "water, greenery, flowers, sunlight and shade" is a liberating space.
