Sure to Be a Hit! A Standard Souvenir From Yokohama Chinatown
Jukei Hanten is a famous Szechuan restaurant in Yokohama Chinatown. Gifts and take-out food from the restaurant are available at its Jukei Hanten Yokohama Chinatown Daiichi Baiten store, right near Yokohama Chinatown's Chaoyangmen (East Gate). It has a wide selection of goods available, including almost all the products Jukei Hanten has to offer.
The Standard and Most Popular Banpin
There are various snacks that are recommended, including those shaped into peaches and flowers by pastry chefs, as well as the house specialty handmade dim sum, but the most famous is the Banpin (918 JPY/roll).
This is a Chinese sweet that was recognized as outstanding in the 24th sweets contest held by Kanagawa Prefecture. The surface covered with roasted walnuts looks amazing. You can truly feel the weight of the Chinese-style bean paste that is packed into the sweet.
The bean paste is the same dòushā xiàn (red bean) paste used in mooncakes, which are eaten during the harvest moon period. It has a clear sesame flavor, with edible bamboo charcoal being used to enhance the dark color and texture. It looks rich, but is actually a relatively light sweet.
Unlike mooncake, it is a cylindrical sweet where the bean paste is wrapped thoroughly in a pastry made of milk and eggs. It can be cut into different sizes to enjoy with family and friends. You can recognize Jukei Hanten’s version by its substantial 18.5cm length.
The packaging is designed by Alan Chan, a famous Hong Kong designer who is also an active artist. It is designed so that you can feel comfortable presenting it to anyone, even your boss, as a gift or token of appreciation. It is a sophisticated design that represents Chinatown well.

It can be a chore to buy souvenirs, but the Daiichi Baiten of Jukei Hanten in Yokohama Chinatown is conveniently right by the East Gate. It faces a major road and is easy to get to.
