Yokohama, the biggest port city in Japan, is home to many shops where you can taste various beers from different parts of the globe. Here are five spots with a unique sense of individuality, so try to check them out to find the one you like.
1. Bar De Vinos
Located in a spot that is just a 2-minute walk from Kanagawa Station in the Keikyu Main Line, Bar De Vinos is a Spanish bar where guests get to sample the only draft Spanish beers in all of Yokohama. Starting with the famous “mahou,” a representative beer of Spain that is popular for its balanced bitter taste, there is a long list of small bottled beers (780 JPY per bottle (excl. tax)) that are waiting for you to try here. Their food menu is also filled with colorful Spanish dishes, one of which is the well-loved Gyokai Tappuri no Paella (paella filled with seafood) (2,980 JPY (excl. tax)). This dish, which is made only after you order it, will be served heaping with fresh lobsters, blue crabs and other seafood. If you want to savor a menu centering on such kind of paella together with an all-you-can-drink course, then it would be best to order the Paella Course (5,000 JPY (incl. tax)).

2. GRIMM Nishiguchi Bar Komichi Shop
The German bar GRIMM, which is located in the Nishiguchi Bar komichi area at the West Exit of Yokohama Station where there are rows of unique bars, is recommended to those who think that real beers come from Germany. This bar serves barreled draft beers and smoked beers such as craft beers that you can choose from four draft beer towers imported from Germany. Out of all its beers, though, the one that you have to taste is the Erdinger Weissbräu M-size (880 JPY (excl. tax)) that is a crowd favorite during Oktoberfest. This bar also offers a wide range of courses, but the most recommended ones are the Deutsche e no Iriguchi L-Size Beer-Tsuki 2,000 Plan (2,000-yen the gateway to Germany plan that comes with L-sized beers) (2,000 JPY (incl. tax)) that is good for two persons (this course is limited to five groups only), and the Deutsche Beer Nomihodai Course (all-you-can drink German beer course) (6,000 JPY (incl. tax)) that is recommended to those who want to enjoy a lot of different kinds of beers.
3. JINGLE BEER＆DINING
JINGLE BEER＆DINING is a place that is recommended to those who want to taste Japanese local beers while they are in Japan. Its specialty is, more than anything, the Shonan Gold M-size (980 JPY (incl. tax)) that is made by Sankt Gallen Brewery, a local beer manufacturer based in Atsugi. Characterized by its citrusy aroma from the use of rare oranges produced in Kanagawa, this beer has won the top prize in various beer contests several times. It is served only in spring and summer in other shops, but at JINGLE BEER＆DINING, it is available all throughout the year thanks to its being the sole agent of this beer in Kanagawa. Aside from Shonan Gold, this place also constantly has eight different types of craft beers in stock for its customers, centering on those brewed in Kanagawa. Try a few of the local Japanese beers together with the famous Higawari Tapas (daily special tapas) (540 JPY) that use carefully selected ingredients.
4. F+Affinity Dining
F+Affinity Dining is a fancy space that is operated by a famous hair salon. It serves 30 kinds of bottled beers from around the world, such as the set of two types of barreled draft beers whose combination changes every day, making it a spot that is recommended to people who want to choose the beer they want from a large collection of beers. The daily special of two beers is made up of two Japanese craft beers, with this bar giving guests the chance to taste the Tonakai Brown Coffee (980 JPY (excl. tax)) that will let you enjoy the roasty aroma of coffee, and the Doshi no Yusui Jikomi (DOSHI Spring Water Beer) (980 JPY (excl. tax)) that is a Kölsch type of beer made with water from Yokohama. This spot is also earning rave reviews for its food menu under the concept of “marriage” of comfort foods, including the Sengyo no Carpaccio Goshu Moriawase (assortment of five types of seafood carpaccio) (1,380 JPY (excl. tax)).
5. Irish Pub The Green Sheep
The Green Sheep is an Irish pub that offers nine kinds of draft beers. The famous Guinness 1 Pint (910 JPY (excl. tax)) uses a beer server bought in Ireland, with only a few units in existence in Japan today. Customers love the creamy froth and the delicious, refreshing taste of this beer that make them feel like they are actually drinking it right at the place where it is brewed. Aside from Guinness, this bar is also the only place in Yokohama where you can taste Yona Yona Real Ale 1 Pint (910 JPY (excl. tax)), a standard favorite among local Japanese craft beers in draft form. Enjoy drinking while eating some Irish dishes that go really well with beers. Further, this place shows soccer games on the giant screen inside the bar, as well as live performances depending on the day, so try to check the schedule first before you come.
