Kanagawa is a prefecture that borders Tokyo and has plenty of charming sightseeing areas such as Yokohama, Shonan, Kamakura, and Hakone.
Yokohama has flourished as a port city for centuries and has plenty of foreign influence. You can enjoy street food in Chinatown and shop at the Red Brick Warehouse. Shonan, which is an open area bordering the ocean, is a great place where you can swim in the summer and enjoy cuisine while gazing at the scenery. If you're going to eat there, you should definitely try their famous shirasudon, whitebait on rice.
Kamakura is a historically important place, and home to many shrines and temples such as the Kotoku-in, which houses the Great Buddha statue; Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, which worships the guardian deities of Kamakura samurai; and Hokoku-ji, which has a gorgeous bamboo grove. You can also enjoy the scenery, with cherry blossoms in the spring, hydrangeas in May-June, and colorful foliage in the fall.
You can take the beloved local train, the Enoden, between Kamakura to Shonan, and sightsee while enjoying the scenery along the coast.
There are also popular onsen (hot spring) resort areas such as Hakone Yumoto, Tonosawa, Miyanoshita, Kowakudani, Gora, Sengokuhara, and Lake Ashi, so you can relax in a hot spring in an inn. This prefecture is full of countless places to see and activities to enjoy.
