Hokkaido's largest city, Sapporo, has an abundance of good food. Here are five recommended locations that serve specialty beers in this gourmet city. Some serve beer that is available only in Hokkaido, so please discover your favorite pint.
1. COOL BEER CRAFT GRANO
This is a bar that opened in December 2016 and serves 14 different types of cask beer, primarily from the US, which is at the forefront of the craft beer movement. It has a wide selection of bottled beers as well, totaling approximately 50 labels. The specialty item on its food menu is the voluminous Chicago Pizza (1,280 JPY (incl. tax) and up) with plenty of cheese and toppings inside a thick crust. The GRANO Course (5,000 JPY (incl. tax)) is a popular course that includes bottomless servings of all of the cask beers, and a Chicago Pizza. 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm is Happy Hour during which craft beers are 30% off and other cask beers are 50% off. Stop by early to take advantage of the discount prices.

2. KING STAR
This is Sapporo's largest bar with a capacity of 100 people. There are 14 TV monitors on which customers can watch a variety of sports such as baseball and soccer. The most popular beer here is the Heineken Extra Cold (700 JPY (excl. tax)). The draught beer that is served at 0℃ or lower from a dedicated server is popular for tasting refreshing to the last drop. Payment options are the Cash on Charge (1,500 JPY charge fee), where the payment is made when the product is delivered, and the Bottomless Cocktail Plan (2,500 JPY/60 minutes, 1,000 JPY per extra 30 minutes). Prices on the Player's' Floor, where you can relax and enjoy sports broadcasts, is a bit different, so be sure to check in advance on the website.
3. SALT MODERATE
This restaurant is recommended for those who want to savor beer from around the world together with fresh oysters. At any given time, it has three different types of fresh Hokkaido oysters that have been carefully selected, as well as oven-grilled oysters. You can enjoy these fabulous oysters together with drafts of Hoegaarden, Brooklyn Lager and other brands, as well as bottled beer from around the world. Some other food items you don't want to miss include house aged meats and local food from Hawaii. The restaurant is in a standalone building, with the first floor being a casual bar with an open kitchen and the second floor being a chic dining floor so you can choose where to go to depending on your mood and the number of people you are with.
4. SAPPORO CLASSIC BAR
This churrascaria is recommended for those who want to enjoy beer that is only available locally. This is the only place in Japan you can have Sapporo Classic Ultra Cold (600 JPY (incl. tax)), which is Sapporo Classic (500 JPY (incl. tax)), that is only available in Hokkaido, cooled to below freezing in a special server. If you have plans to go elsewhere for dinner, you can just go up to the standing bar and order beer. The bottomless food and drinks course menu of 10 types of domestic churrasco sourced mainly from Hokkaido and a buffet that is 5,000 JPY (excl. tax) for 120 minutes is recommended. Some courses require advance reservations, so be sure to check.
5. Umihe Asty Branch
This is a seafood izakaya restaurant chain in Hokkaido. The Asty Branch, which is in a building that is connected to Sapporo Station, serves Asahi Super Dry Extra Cold (640 JPY (excl. tax)) by Asahi, which is a major brewery in Japan. It is served at sub-zero temperatures thanks to a state-of-the-art temperature management system and dedicated server. It is popular as a sharp and smooth beer that is recommended with Hokkaido's bounty of the sea. On the last Friday of each month, drinks, including draught beer, are offered at half price till 6:00 pm.
