1. Suntory's Garden Sora
This is the place to go to in order to try 3 major types of crab! This modern restaurant is conveniently located on the top floor of a building close to Sapporo Station. Suntory's Garden Sora is split into private rooms, the main floor, and a bar lounge area, with a total seating capacity of 400. While limited to dinner time, there is a reservation-only, 90-minute time limit Sandaigani Buffet Course" (6,480 JPY incl. tax) for 2 people or more. "Sandaigani" refers to hairy crab, snow crab, and red king crab. Aside from that, there is a wide variety of other cuisines made using Hokkaido produce, such as Genghis Khan barbecue, salmon chanchanyaki (baked in sweet miso sauce), and sushi. This restaurant is recommended for travelers who love crabs and wish to enjoy tasting the different flavors of Hokkaido.
2. Hokkaido Shokuichiba Maruumiya Paseo Branch
Crab, squid, and mackerel are some of the delicious Hokkaido-produced ingredients that are used in this izakaya's cooking. Recommended for travelers who wish to enjoy the lively atmosphere of an izakaya while stuffing themselves silly with crabs. For a mere 5,980 JPY (incl. tax), you can have a go at the Snow Crab and Hokkaido Pork Shabu Eat-And-Drink-All-You-Can Course (120-minute time limit, reservations only). Their drink menu is extensive, with 100 different types such as beer, cocktails, shochu, and Japanese sake. Aside from crabs, other food items such as edamame, Special Chicken Nanban (fried chicken with tartar sauce), and French fries are available. Your stomach might already be filled even before you order any crab, so make sure you eat as much crab as you can before trying other items on the menu!
3. Ebi Kani Gassen Sapporo Main Branch
Ebi Kani Gassen is one of the famous restaurants where you can have a crab buffet. Depending on the type of crabs and the other side dishes that you wish to order, there are 5 different buffet courses to choose from, starting from 6,000 JPY (90-minute time limit, available from 2 people and above). The 7,000 JPY course, which has 3 types of crab (snow crab, hairy crab, and red king crab) to choose from, and other side dishes such as tempura, sushi, and chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard) is recommended. The store dishes out a serving of crab upon being seated which you have to finish eating first before you can order anything else. You might be too busy stuffing your face with crab to even talk to your partner, but there is no mistaking that this is the place to get some good tasting crabs!
4. Hokkaido Beer Garden
Highly recommended for travelers who enjoy drinking beer and eating crab! While this place is famous for its Genghis Khan barbecue, they also provide a crab buffet course for 5,481 JPY (incl. tax). The Kani Tabehodai Course: Table Buffet Eat-And-Drink-All-You-Can course (6,980 JPY incl. tax) has a 120-minute time limit. Reservations are necessary, and this course is only available for groups of 2 and above. Besides the 3 famous foods of Hokkaido (Genghis Khan barbecue, crab, and sushi), you can also order 20 other types of side dishes and desserts that use Hokkaido produce. The Sapporo Five Star beer, while limited to beer garden diners only, is also available free flow. Talk about decadence!
5. Ore No Sapporo Main Branch
At Ore No Sapporo, you can choose from the crab buffet and kaiseki courses, as well as a wide range of other dishes from their ala carte menu. Their Ore No Hokkaido Course" (6,980 JPY (incl. tax)), a 90-minute time limit buffet course, available even for single diners, has 3 types of crab (blue king crab, snow crab, and hairy crab) to choose from. Reservations are necessary, however. Only the best ingredients are chosen for their cuisine, and the course also includes other side dishes such as sashimi, crab shumai, and crab hotpot, ensuring that you can enjoy many different types of crab cuisine to the fullest. The course also comes with all-you-can-drink, and you can order different alcoholic drinks such as beer, Japanese sake and shochu. The Ore No Hokkaido Course is only limited to 10 people a day, so we recommend making your reservation as early as possible in order to avoid disappointment.
