Major complex facilities are set to open all throughout Japan in 2020. Here are five hot spots that will debut in central Tokyo this year!
1. WATERS takeshiba
Situated by the waterfront right smack in the heart of Tokyo, Takeshiba is a nature-rich area that boasts excellent accessibility to various places in the city. WATERS takeshiba, a complex facility that maximizes its appealing location, is scheduled to open in 2020. In this complex, Atre Takeshiba has been getting a lot of attention as a spot that is inspired by the concept of a “playground with sensibility”. With a wide variety of dining and drinking spots, Japan’s first dialogue museum, theaters and other establishments, it is packed with gimmicks that will fully satisfy the sense of curiosity of adults. You can also see Hamarikyu Gardens from the open space and terrace facing the waterside, so this would be a great place to visit for people who want to spend a relaxing time in the city.
2. MIYASHITA PARK
Miyashita Park, a Shibuya landmark that was developed as an aerial park in 1966, has long been loved as a place for relaxation among the city dwellers. Now, this very park has been transformed and will open on June 18, 2020 as MIYASHITA PARK, an integrated park, commercial facility and hotel. The park’s commercial zone will house rows of shops of various categories, including fashion, culture, cafes and restaurants, as well as a multipurpose court, skateboard park and other spaces for recreation. On the first floor, the 24-hour food court “Shibuya Yokocho” will also open. It certainly looks like this area will draw more attention in the days to come.
3. Hibiya OKUROJI
Set to open in late June 2020, Hibiya Okuroji is a facility that will be located under the railway bridge between JR Yurakucho Station and Shimbashi Station. It will stand out with its brick arch and hold a plethora of unique, sophisticated shops, including a variety of bars that carry with them the drinking culture of the Ginza and Shimbashi areas, restaurants and cafes where you're guaranteed an elegant time, and specialty shops that hold an array of goods handmade by craftsmen. This hidden gem of Hibiya will leave you the same kind of thrilled that you'd get if you wandered into an alley. Pay it a visit and you're sure to come across encounters you have not dreamed of before!
4. Toyosu Bayside Cross
Slated to open in 2020, Toyosu Bayside Cross is a complex facility that is made up of commercial establishments, offices and a hotel. It is directly connected to the Toyosu Station in the Yurikamome and Tokyo Metro’s Yurakucho Line, and is just around 10 minutes away from the Ginza area. Mitsui Shopping Park Urban Dock LaLaport Toyosu, a commercial facility that will open in Toyosu Bayside Cross Tower that is the core of this complex, will house a wide array of tenants such as restaurants, bookstores and specialty electronics stores. The existing LaLaport Toyosu will also be renovated into the largest commercial facility in the bay area.
5. Tokyo mizumachi
Tokyo mizumachi is a new commercial complex that will be launched under the elevated railway tracks that connect Asakusa Station and Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu Line. The West Zone, which will open in May 2020, will have seven shops, including the first Japanese branch of a famous restaurant from overseas. Meanwhile, the East Zone that is set to open in June will debut with restaurants, a sports complex and a hostel with a cafe.
Meanwhile, the pedestrian bridge called "Sumida River Walk", which was developed in conjunction with the opening of Tokyo mizumachi, will open in May. Its opening is bound to make access between Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree Station even more convenient.
What do you think of the places on the list? These spots may be right in the middle of Tokyo, but they are truly pleasant spaces that are enveloped by water and lush greenery. You can enjoy these spots for dining, shopping, relaxation and so many other ways!
