The Appeals of NEWoMan Shinjuku – The Latest Hot Spot in Shinjuku Station’s Shin-minami Area
NEWoMan Shinjuku is the commercial complex that opened in Shinjuku’s Shin-minami area just about a year ago. Aside from housing a myriad of shops and restaurants, the express bus terminal is also adjacent to it, so it is truly a convenient spot. Below are some shops in this establishment that are especially recommended!
What is NEWoMan Shinjuku?
NEWoMan Shinjuku is a commercial facility that opened at Shinjuku Station in March 2016. This complex is not limited to shops related to fashion, as it offers a diverse lineup of stores that covers lifestyle, beauty, health, food, and cultural products. There are also many attractive cafes and restaurants inside, where you can enjoy dining from breakfast until bar time!
AKOMEYA TOKYO (Inside Miraina Tower, 1F)
First, visit AKOMEYA TOKYO that is located on the 1st floor of this complex. It is a shop that sells lifestyle products centered on rice. This is based on their concept of “happiness that can be spread with a bowl of white rice”. Aside from carefully selected rice from all over Japan, it also carries food products like seasonings that can be enjoyed with rice, kitchen tools, fashion accessories, and other miscellaneous goods. Please come and experience the charms of rice – the soul food of the Japanese people.
TORAYA CAFÉ AN STAND (Ekisoto, 2F)
TORAYA CAFÉ AN STAND is a cafe and shop that is run by Toraya – a popular well-established confectionery shop from Kyoto that has been in the business for five centuries now. Here, you can enjoy a wide range of dishes that are created in a bid to convey the various charms of “an” (bean paste). They also offer a lot of products for take-out, such as the An Paste that is easy to add onto any confectionery and baked sweets that use bean paste.
Next, head over to the FOOD HALL, where you can find a long list of cafes and restaurants. Four out of five of the shops in this hall are proud of their business hours (7:00 am – 1:00 am)! Being able to drop by these places after enjoying shopping until late into the night is great, isn’t it?
OysterBar wharf (FOOD HALL, 2F)
This is the NEWoMan Shinjuku branch of a massively famous oyster bar from Singapore. Aside from carefully chosen fresh oysters sourced from every region of Japan, you can also enjoy various seafood dishes that incorporate seafood like fresh tuna that’s been directly shipped from fishing harbors in Wakayama. Another major draw of this shop is that you can drink Tiger Beer – produced in Singapore and rarely seen in Japan – as draft beer.
SUSHI TOKYO TEN、 (FOOD HALL, 2F)
Next, visit this famous sushi shop that Japan is truly proud of - SUSHI TOKYO TEN. Here, you can try a variety of sushi with seasonal toppings recommended by the chef – in Omakase-de (wherein the chef decides on what to serve you), Sukoshi-zutsu (a little bit at a time), or Takusan (a lot) style. Please savor extremely fresh sushi to your heart’s content.
KOKO LUMINE Store (Eki-naka, 2F)
KOKO LUMINE Store is a shop that conveys everything wonderful about the Japanese concept of “monozukuri” (craftsmanship). It offers “Nihon no ii mono” (good products of Japan) that can be used every day, such as miscellaneous goods, food products, and traditional crafts. It is a lovely shop where you will get to know the feelings of the people behind the creation of the products, the background of monozukuri, and the charms of each area in Japan.
Wa’s sandwich (Ekinaka, 2F)
The last spot to be showcased is Wa’s sandwich – a shop that is dedicated to sandwiches. This shop offers a wide selection of Japanese sandwiches that are made using handpicked delicious bread, dashi (stock), soy sauce, and other “wa” (Japanese) ingredients. Most of their sandwich fillings are also Japanese in style, such as saba (mackerel) seasoned with shio-koji (fermented seasoning from koji mold, salt, and water). Here, the sandwiches are overflowing with the healthy goodness of Japanese cuisine, as they contain fish and vegetables, as well as miso, shio-koji, and other fermented food products. You have to try their sandwiches even just once!
NEWoMan Shinjuku is superbly easy to access, as it is directly connected to JR Shinjuku Station. If you are touring Tokyo, please drop by!
