There are many cafes in Tokyo where you can engage with cute animals. Here are five such cafes where you can have a soothing time with cats, rabbits, birds, owls, and goats.
1. Calico
This is a cafe with two locations in Tokyo, Shinjuku and Kichijoji, where you can play with cute cats. The Shinjuku location is one of the biggest in the city in both number of cats and square footage. The cafe offers a wonderful space where you can be comforted by a total of 50 cats. It is crowded between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm on weekends and holidays, so better to make reservations by phone. For those who want to spend a lot of time there, there are discount packages such as "free time."

The animals you can spend time with here are rabbits! There is a variety of different types of rabbits in the shop, and you will be soothed just watching them hop around. You can pet them and give them snacks (150 JPY). You choose to stay in the cafe for either 30 minutes or 60 minutes. The location is about 5 minutes on foot from Meiji-Jingumae Station.

3. Torinoiru Cafe
This is a cafe where parrots of a variety of colors fly around. The parrots will perch on your hands, shoulders, and head, so you can engage with them by, for example, feeding them. There are birds of prey such as owls and eagles near the entrance, so be sure to say hi to them as well. If you're concerned about your clothes getting dirty, the cafe will lend you a poncho for free. It's in the popular tourist town of Asakusa, so you can stop in while seeing the sites.

4. Akiba Fukurou
At this cafe, you can meet approximately 30 owls. Entrance is by reservation only, and the number of customers is restricted, so you can thoroughly enjoy your 60 minutes of relaxation on one visit. The shop has various areas such as for photography, touching, hand perching, and professional photography, all under the concept of "healing entertainment." At the end, you will receive a cutely decorated postcard of the photographs. It is 2 minutes on foot from JR Akihabara Station. Reservations can be made on their website, which is available in both English and Chinese (traditional).

5. Sakuragaoka Cafe
This is a cafe 4 minutes on foot from Shibuya Station, and has a stylish interior with antique furniture and indirect lighting picked out by the owner. Two goats, one black and one white, called Sakura and Chocolat, will welcome you in their hut on the terrace. The cafe has a wide selection of menu items, including food such as lunch sets and à la carte dishes (around 1,000 JPY), sweets (around 600 JPY), and a variety of drinks (500 JPY and up).
