5 Yakiniku Restaurants in Tokyo Where You Can Enjoy High-Grade Beef

There are plenty of yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurants ranging from affordable to high-class wagyu specialty stores. In this article, we introduce some yakiniku restaurants within Tokyo where you can sample some high-grade beef.

1. Iyasaka

With its A5 grade Omi beef that is brought in directly from the farm and its generous servings of select vegetables, Iyasaka is popular among many female diners. Omi beef, along with Kobe beef and Matsusaka beef, make up the 3 major wagyu beef brands. Try the Omi Beef Assortment (starting at 3,978 JPY (excl. tax)), which has a good balance of both lean and marbled meat. Also, one of the reasons why this restaurant is so popular with women is because of its creative cuisine made by the experienced French chef, such as oil fondue and bagna cauda. Iyasaka not only has delicious yakiniku, but also has a good variety of side dishes!

2. Sumibi Yakiniku Suehiro Kinshicho Kitaguchi Branch

Suehiro, located in downtown Tokyo, is a restaurant that serves mainly A5-grade kuroge wagyu beef from Tochigi. You can order the popular and good-value Suehiro Set (9,180 JPY (incl. tax)) for 3-4 persons, which is a 10-item set that includes beef ribs, horumon (beef and pork offal), salad, and kimchi. There is a good variety of drinks, such as makgeolli (a type Korean alcohol), beer, Japanese sake and wine. Also, during lunch time (11:00 am - 4:00 pm daily), you can order one of the yakiniku lunch sets, ranging from 860 JPY (incl. tax) to 1,380 JPY (incl. tax), which is a great value. 3. Musashi

This place is good for even dinner dates, as you can enjoy some A5 grade yakiniku in its stylish interior. While there are plenty of course meals (3,500 JPY (excl. tax) - 8,000 JPY (excl. tax)) to choose from, dining in a group of 4 or more grants you access to the reservations-only, all-you-can-drink dinner course meals (5,000 JPY (excl. tax) - 10,000 JPY (excl. tax)), which will give you good value for your money. Try the Gokujo Wagyu all-you-can-eat (male diners 6,200 JPY (excl. tax), female diners 5,200 JPY (excl. tax)), which offers kuroge wagyu premium cuts, as well as ribs and sirloin steaks. 4. Kakunoshin R

You can try some Kanzaki Aged Beef at this store, which involves an approximately 60-day unique aging process that slowly removes the moisture from the beef. Try the Katamariyaki Course (8,000 JPY (excl. tax), 10,000 JPY (excl. tax)). One taste of it, and you can probably understand the wonders of the savoriness of aged beef! As the grilling of the meat cubes is a difficult task for amateurs, the staff does it right in front of your eyes. The "live performance" of the changes that the raw meat undergoes in order to become the best-tasting beef is an enjoyment in its own. This is the place to enjoy the condensed savory aroma and deep flavors of beef!

5. Ozeki

Located in a little back road in Akasaka, this famous restaurant is hailed as the king of yakiniku. The Gyu Ippiki Course (for 2 people, normal: 5,320 JPY, premium: 8,220 JPY) is a course meal that was born from the proprietor's desire for the restaurant's customers to fill their stomachs with premium beef cuts. This value-for-money set meal allows you to sample different parts such as beef ribs, sirloin, and even innards. Considering the A5-grade beef and prime location in Akasaka, the prices in Ozeki are really reasonable, and it is not uncommon to see crowds of Japanese businessmen enjoying the food and drinks here after a long day of work. Due to its popularity, you should make an advanced reservation to avoid disappointment. Please also be aware that there is a 2-hour time limit.
