You can enjoy cherry blossom viewing, too! 4 Restaurants with Superb Views in Tokyo

During the hanami (cherry blossom viewing) season, it is packed with people everywhere you go, so you may not be able to relax. Here are four cafes and restaurants in Tokyo where you can also enjoy the tradition of hanami.

1. Thrush Café

Thrush Café is a shop that is located inside Happo-en gardens in Shirokanedai. The Happo-en that stands today is the result of the development and expansion works undertaken by a businessman who was active approximately 100 years ago on a place that was originally a samurai’s mansion. Regardless of the fact that it is situated in the center of the city, this café inside the vast gardens that measure about 33,000sq.m. is a place that makes full use of its location to create an open, airy space. It offers terrace seats, too, so you can wile away the hours while marveling at the magnificent view of the gardens. The dishes served here are masterpieces that are particular about the use of the choicest ingredients (lunch course costs 3,800 JPY (excl. tax)). So, if you want to spend some time in a little luxury, then you might want to check this place out!

2. Botanica

Botanica is the Italian restaurant inside Tokyo Midtown, a commercial development that houses not only a shopping area, but also a hotel, museum and other facilities. Inside this shop, which feels very spacious thanks to being surrounded by glass, you will be treated to a panoramic view of the garden terrace and the city streets spreading before your eyes. And while you’re there, try the colorful dishes that lavishly use ingredients in season, too. You can enjoy special vegetables and herbs grown in its own garden, befitting to its name that means “plant.” The W Lunch (2,400 JPY (excl. tax and service charge)) that is only available on weekdays is recommended in this cafe. So, enjoy a relaxing time at the heart of the city while enveloped in the feeling of spring.

Inokashira Park in Kichijoji is famous as a date spot as well as for hanami. SubLime is an izakaya (Japanese gastropub) found inside the park that takes pride in its prime location that gives guests a full view of the gardens. It is not only proud about its gorgeous scenery, though, as it also boasts about its collection of premium dishes that change by the season and use fresh seafood delivered straight from the port and vegetables sourced from its partner farms, as well as its variety of alcoholic drinks that are also perfect for hanami. This is a spot where you can relax and enjoy while marveling at the beautiful cherry blossom flowers in spring and the autumn foliage in fall.

Cherry blossom trees line the canal of Kagurazaka, so it is bustling with cherry blossom viewers in spring. CANAL CAFE is perfectly located right next to the hanami spot. It is divided into a restaurant and a self-service deck, so you will surely have fun with the different ways you can enjoy this place. During lunch (courses are priced from 1,200 JPY), you can enjoy the flowers while relishing with gusto all the exquisite dishes that showcase the skills of the chef, or you can have coffee time (drink sets are priced from 600 JPY) on the deck while bathing in the sunlight of spring.
