[Tohoku] Recommended Spots in Ishinomaki and Onagawa

There are plenty of wonderful places to visit in Ishinomaki and Onagawa. Keep reading to find out about two key selections.

Hiyoriyama Park (Ishinomaki)

Hiyoriyama Park in the city of Ishinomaki is situated in a hilly area near the mouth of the Kitakami River, and was once the location of Ishinomaki Castle. It was visited by the famous poet, Matsuo Basho. It was also used as an evacuation location during the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

Dairokuten Parking Lot (Onagawa)

Dairokuten Parking Lot, located in the town of Onagawa, Miyagi, is an observation deck from which you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Onagawa Bay. You can reach the Dairokuten Parking Lot by taking National Highway 398 toward Onagawa, and then turn onto National Highway 229 (the Oshika Cobalt Line) toward the Oshika Peninsula. From there, it is a 6-minute drive.
