The Japanese way of traveling is doing a lot of walking in sightseeing, and then after that, unwinding by soaking in a hot bath that can soothe the exhausted mind and body. Here are five of the top ryokan (Japanese-style inn) and hotels in the outskirts of Sendai where you can take a nice hot bath anytime you feel like it thanks to guest rooms that have their own private open-air baths.

1. Matsushima Ichinobo

Matsushima Ichinobo is a hot spring hotel that is located in front of the famous tourist spot Matsushima. Its biggest draw is its location that lets guests enjoy the stunning view of several islands floating in the sea.
This hotel’s two types of guest rooms that opened in 2016 offer gorgeous views of the ocean. The Japanese-style room, where you are required to take off your shoes before entering, is a cozy space with a bed. Particularly recommended at this hotel is Senshin, the Japanese-style twin room with a private open-air bath. If you stay in this room, you will be able to spend a truly relaxing time soaking in a hot bath with the superb view of Matsushima all to yourself.
