It is good to hear that travelers may now use discount tickets to access public transport at reasonable prices. This article lists the top 9 discount travel tickets that you can use at certain locations, ordered according to the cities and areas you would want to visit.
1. Hokkaido Rail Pass
It is recommended to purchase this pass if you are travelling to Hokkaido, as it lets you ride all the JR Hokkaido lines (aside from the bullet train), as well as some of the JR buses within Sapporo City, for an unlimited number of times. You may choose from the 3, 5, or 7-day passes or the "Flexible 4-Day Pass", which you may use for 4 days within 10 days of purchase. The price starts from 16,500 JPY for 1 adult.

The JR East Pass is used for the Tokyo Area, Tohoku Region, Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture. You may choose from two types: The Tohoku Region Pass (starts from 19,000 JPY for 1 adult) or the Nagano and Niigata Pass (starts from 17,000 JPY for 1 adult). Either pass will give you unlimited access to the JR lines in the Tokyo Area, as well as certain JR lines in other regions (can also use for the bullet train and some lines outside of JR). You may use this pass for 5 days within 14 days of purchase.

3. N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket
This discounted round-trip ticket is perfect for touring around the Greater Tokyo Area from Narita Airport. This enables you to ride the Narita Express (with assigned seating) to main stations such as the airport itself, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Yokohama. You may also use this pass for certain JR lines after getting off the express train. You may use this for 14 days. This ticket costs 4,000 JPY per adult.

4. WELCOME! Tokyo Subway Ticket
Purchase the WELCOME! Tokyo Subway Ticket if you are coming from Narita Airport. This ticket is a combination of the Keikyu Line Ticket (one-way or round-trip), which gives you access from the airport to Sengakuji Station, as well as unlimited access to the subway in Tokyo. You may use this ticket for the Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway Lines. You may choose from 3 types: The 24, 48, or 72 hour one. Prices start from 1,200 JPY for 1 adult.

5. JR-WEST RAIL PASS
This pass is recommended to those travelling to the Kansai, Hokuriku, and Chugoku regions, as it gives you unlimited access to the trains on the JR West Line. You may choose from 9 types of passes, which can be used in different areas and for different days. For example, the "Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass" (15,000 JPY for 1 adult) can be used for 7 days in the Kansai and Hokuriku areas. You may also use this pass for the bullet and express trains.

This pass is recommended to those traveling to Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, and Wakayama. The KANSAI THRU PASS lets you ride private railways, the subway, and buses in certain areas. Each ticket costs 4,000 JPY per adult and grants an unlimited number of rides for 2 days. There’s also a 3-day pass that costs 5,200 JPY per adult. You may choose the pass you want depending on the number of days you would like to make use of public transport.

The KINTETSU RAIL PASS is perfect for those travelling to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Ise-Shima, and Nagoya. This unlimited pass lets you ride all the Kintetsu Railway lines in specified areas. You may also ride the express trains if you purchase a separate express pass. You may use this pass to ride all the Iga Railway lines, which are perfect to tour around Ise (known as a ninja village). This pass costs 3,600 JPY per adult. You may use this pass for 5 consecutive days.

8. KANSAI ONE PASS
The KANSAI ONE PASS is also convenient for those travelling around the Kansai Area, as this IC card lets you ride major railways and certain bus lines. You can easily ride and get off of public transport – as long as you charge the card beforehand so that you can smoothly pass through the ticket gate. This pass also gives you certain discounts that you can use at around 200 tourist areas. This pass is sold at 2,000 JPY (with a deposit of 500 JPY included). Please note that you may not use this pass in certain areas.

9. JR Kyushu Rail Pass
This pass is ideal for trips to the Kyushu region. You may choose from 3 types depending on the specific area you want to visit. However, each of these passes give you unlimited access to the JR lines (except for bullet trains). The "All Kyushu Area Pass" (15,000 JPY for 1 adult) lets you ride all the JR lines in the Kyushu region. However, you may also opt for the North Kyushu pass (8,500 JPY for 1 adult) or South Kyushu pass (7,000 JPY for 1 adult). You may choose from either the 3-day or 5-day pass (you can only choose the 3-day for South Kyushu).
