Just a Hop and a Skip From Tokyo! Three Fantastic Foliage Views Recommended This Fall
There is nothing better than beautiful foliage in the fall! Anybody will feel soothed by the brightly colored trees and natural landscape. Below are some special spots in Chiba, Shizuoka and Saitama Prefectures. Each one is fabulous for taking photographs to post on social media, and they’re all surrounded by great places to have fun in. Here are three places that have fantastic views and are surrounded by rich nature to visit on a day trip from Tokyo!
A Mystical Waterfall Made Famous by Social Media
The sun rays that shine onto the river’s surface in the cave creates a magical scene... Nomizo Falls in Kimitsu, Chiba became a social media sensation for the fairytale-like scenery that can be seen early in the morning during the season of fresh verdure (May). The scenery that changes each season is beautiful year-round, with fireflies in the summer and colorful foliage in the fall. During autumn, the wooden path near Shimizu Keiryu Square is covered with colorful foliage and is perfect for a stroll. There are sites for outdoor sports and a sake brewery nearby, so it is perfect for an outing!

Roman Forest Republic is known for its vast grounds that measures 400,000sq.m. Lake Tanuki (at the foot of Mt. Fuji) has camping sites to the north and south. Once its leaves start to turn colors from early November, the area becomes chock-full of people who come to enjoy the leaves and the view of Mt. Fuji. The two camp sites near the lake have parking lots, so you can park your car and take in the fantastic view. On a fine day, you'll see all of Mt. Fuji (including the top). There is a 3.3km path around the lake, so you can take a leisurely stroll and enjoy fall foliage.

At this ranch – which has a view of Mt. Fuji – you can interact with the animals by milking cows and walking goats, as well as participate in various handmaking experiences, such as cheesemaking, butter churning, sausage making, pottery crafting, and making plates with handprint designs. The recommended activity is cheesemaking. You can make mozzarella cheese and string cheese to take home, so you can make your own souvenir! This is a ranch that is exciting for people of all ages.
One of the Top 100 Reservoirs With a Fabulous View
Lake Sayama in Tokorozawa, Saitama – which has been selected as one of the top 100 reservoirs in Japan – has views of Mt. Fuji on clear days between late October and March. Sayama Hills, which is nearby and nature-rich, is great for hiking. The area around Lake Sayama has beautiful fall foliage and has maintained paths so that they’re suitable for strolls. It contains Totoro-no-Mori (Totoro's Forest), with the landscape preserved by the National Trust Movement and Saitama Midori-no-Mori Bijutsukan (Saitama Green Forest Museum). The forest itself is a museum, and it is an area where you can feel cleansed by the rich nature around you.

The National Trust Movement purchases forests using contributions from corporations and individuals in order to protect beautiful landscapes. Totoro-no-Mori was purchased by the Totoro-no-Furusato Fund and consists of 41 lots in which rare animals thrive. Walk around and you may have a wonderful encounter with one of them!
