Popular at Gyomu Super! 5 Recommended “1L Paper Carton Sweets”

Recently, Gyomu Super, often referred to as Gyo-su, has been attracting a great deal of attention in Japan. It is cheap and has a lot of attractive original products, among which the "paper carton sweets", which are desserts in 1L paper cartons, are especially popular. Here are five recommended paper carton sweets from among the wide selection that Gyomu Super offers.

What is Gyomu Super?

Gyomu Super is a supermarket chain with more than 800 outlets across Japan that sells primarily food for the food service industry. It offers a wide selection of products including imports, frozen foods and original brand items. Its popularity has been increasing as a place not only for professionals, but also for the general public to purchase bulk food cheaply.

What is Gyomu Super?

Mizu Yokan

Mizu Yokan is a standard wagashi (Japanese confection) that is made by pouring sweet azuki paste into a mold. Gyomu Super offers a 1L pack of Mizu Yokan, which is one of its most popular items sold in paper cartons. The Mizu Yokan is distinguished by a slippery texture, aromatic azuki beans and a mild sweetness. It can be cut into individual sizes and served with toppings, such as fresh cream. It can even be warmed up in a microwave and made into oshiruko (sweet red bean soup). Be sure to give it a try!

Price: 248 JPY (excl. tax).

Annin Tofu

Annin Tofu is a Chinese dessert that is popular in Japan, and Gyomu Super also offers it in a 1L paper carton. Gyomu Super's annin tofu is characterized by its sweetness and chewy texture. Serve it with fruit, and the acidity of the fruit and the sweetness of the annin tofu create the perfect combination! It is so good you may have a hard time putting your spoon down. It can be melted then poured into another mold to make it into a fancy dessert, and can even be frozen if you have leftovers.

Price: 275 JPY (excl. tax)

Custard Pudding

Gyomu Super's Custard Pudding (crème caramel) was consistently sold out for a while after being introduced on TV. The rich flavors of eggs and the sweetness are perfectly balanced and the soft, smooth texture is such that you can keep enjoying it. It does not come with caramel, so you can make some yourself if you want to have it with caramel. If you have leftovers, you can mix it with flour and warm it up in a microwave to make custard cream. The custard cream is great on bread.

Price: 248 JPY (excl. tax)

Rare Cheese

This no-bake cheesecake is recommended for anyone who loves cheesecakes. It is just slightly sweet and has light, yogurt-like flavors. The taste of cheese and the slight acidity is just perfect. You can use it to make cheese tarts and tiramisu as well. If you like rich flavors, add some cheese and warm it up. Topping it with jam is another popular way of eating it.

Price: 298 JPY (excl. tax)

Hojicha Latte Pudding

Hojicha, which is made by roasting tea leaves, has become a pudding! It is a Japanese-style pudding that has light flavors despite its dark appearance. The viscous texture, hint of sweetness and hojicha aroma go so well together you may get hooked. To add an interesting note to the flavors, try sprinkling it with kinako (roasted soybean flour) that goes wonderfully with Japanese-style desserts.

Price: 275 JPY (excl. tax)

Be sure to go to Gyomu Super and try these wonderful items!
