Ordering a set meal is an easy way to enjoy a combination of a main dish plus additional sides like rice and miso soup. This article will introduce 13 chain restaurants offering set meals for 1,000 JPY or less.

1. YAYOI

This restaurant offers well balanced set meals designed around freshly cooked rice, plus miso soup and other sides. You'll find YAYOI restaurants all over Japan. There are a number of different set meals to choose from, starting from 630 JPY (incl. tax). Each one compliments rice and miso soup perfectly. The tamago-yaki (rolled omelet) made fresh to order from designated farm-sourced eggs is also very popular. The menu offers a surprising variety of options, including Japanese style dishes like beef and potato stew and miso-seasoned mackerel, plus more international choices such as curries, hamburg steaks, Napolitan pasta. There are five sizes of rice servings available, but they tend to be larger than other restaurants, so make sure you check the size of the samples at the counter before ordering.

This famous beef tongue set meal chain takes a careful approach not just to flavor but also food safety.
