[2019 Edition] 10 Recommended Newly Opened Spots in Osaka
Many new places offering unique and innovative experiences have opened in the city of Osaka. This article introduces ten select spots to enhance your Osaka experience, such as places to enjoy cheap but great food and attractions available only in Osaka.
1. SAKUYA LUMINA
SAKUYA LUMINA is the latest nighttime entertainment created by one of the world's leading digital arts groups, MOMENT FACTORY, based in Montreal, Canada.
It is a night walk in Osaka Castle Park, through a story split up into nine chapters that the audience walks through. Experience a mystical world of sound and light unique to Osaka Castle Park.

2. Panasonic Museum
Panasonic, one of Japan's leading manufacturers of home appliances, opened a Monozukuri-ism building in its museum in commemoration of the company's 100th anniversary. (Monozukuri is a word that embodies the Japanese spirit of making things that is most closely translated as craftsmanship)
The building displays 550 home appliances including first generation products such as black-and-white TV, refrigerator, and washing machine, as well as other appliances organized by themes such as design, entertainment, size, and longevity. Seeing the appliances that have evolved through ingenuity makes one realize how quickly time passes. Entry is free, so drop in at your leisure.

3. Hankyu Sanbangai UMEDA FOOD HALL
The vast UMEDA FOOD HALL that opened on the second basement floor of the North Building of Hankyu Sanbangai is a place where you can enjoy food from a wide selection of popular restaurants in a shared dining area.
Pay for and pick up your food at each shop and enjoy it in the shared dining area, and when you're done, return the containers to the shop you ordered from.
Each shop offers high-quality flavors in a casual setting, among which the Specialty Maguromeshi (980 JPY (incl. tax)), a rice plate packed with fresh tuna in a special sauce with yuzu (Japanese citrus fruit) by Osaka's Dojima Toroya, is a particular recommendation. It is a great way to enjoy high quality tuna procured from a tuna wholesaler at great prices.
In addition to UMEDA FOOD HALL, Hankyu Sanbangai has floors where you can purchase fashionable clothes, household items, and more, making it a great place to enjoy both fantastic food and shopping.

4. Illusion Museum
The Illusion Museum brings together magic tricks, deception, and illusions from all ages and cultures around the world. At this museum, you can see exhibits of historical artifacts related to magic and illusions from around the world and experience the latest illusions. There is also a performance by illusionists so if you've never seen a magic trick with your own eyes, be sure to take a look.
Once you've experienced the museum, be sure to visit the other shops in Miraiza Osaka-jo. There are many souvenir shops and restaurants, among which Shinobi-ya on the first floor is a particular recommendation. It is a shop selling a wide selection of ninja goods, where you can also have a photo taken with a ninja and try throwing a shuriken.

5. Hanshin Snack Park
This is a Snack Park in the basement of the department store, Hanshin Umeda Main Store, filled with shops offering "quick, cheap, and delicious" items. It is the perfect place to enjoy tasty, everyday food. The most popular item here is the ikayaki (grilled squid) of wonderfully chewy batter and great squid flavors for just 152 JPY (incl. tax). If there is a long line for the ikayaki, try the Osaka specialty okonomiyaki by the famous okonomiyaki shop, Dotonbori Akaoni.
There are numerous tables where approximately 130 people can stand around and enjoy their snacks. Everything in the Snack Park is so cheap and tasty, you won't want to stop at just one! Be sure to try a variety of snacks.

6. Tennoji MIO
Tennoji MIO, the shopping center by JR Tennoji Station, has re-opened after renovations, with approximately 80 new shops among the 370 stores in the Main Building and Plaza Building.
The main features of the renewal are the new MIOEKITCHEN on the M2 Floor of the Plaza Building and the many home decor shops in both the Main and Plaza Buildings. MIOEKITCHEN is a convenient place to purchase high-quality groceries, sweets, deli food, and alcohol, and there is even a 100-seat eat-in area to grab a bite while shopping.
The new home decor shops include naturalistic ones, such as unico and B-COMPANY on the 4th Floor of the Main Building, and Nitori EXPRESS on the 5th Floor of the Main Building, with a wide selection of affordable bedding and miscellaneous items.
The shops sell a variety of cute tableware and textiles in addition to large interior goods, and are great places to purchase souvenirs.

7. VS PARK
This is a sports facility with a collection of thoroughly entertaining sport experiences. In "Nigekiru" for example, the participant sees himself and a beast running after him projected on a screen beside the running track. It is a short-distance race with the added excitement - both for the participant and spectators - of seeing whether the beast can be outrun.
There are many other activities that combine digital technology and sports, such as the Wonder Wall where you can enjoy project mapping and bouldering at the same time, and the beauty of the video images is one of the draws of this facility. This is a great place to go with friends and refresh yourself through sports.

8. Hankyu Umeda Main Store HANKYU BEAUTY SALON
HANKYU BEAUTY SALON, which opened on the 19th floor of Hankyu Grand Building next to Hankyu Umeda Main Store on the east side, is full of salons offering a variety of beauty services including a hairdresser, esthetic salon, medical esthetics salon, and head spa & cafe, as well as a gym for KAATSU (blood flow restricted exercise). Relax in the luxurious atmosphere and enjoy the beauty treatments.
Among them, Clinical-Salon Ci:z.Labo Premium is a particular recommendation. It is a medical esthetic salon where all services are overseen by medical doctors so you can feel confident you are in safe hands. The Pro Ageing Care RF Course takes about 70 minutes and is usually 28,080 JPY (incl. tax), but is offered at just 5,400 JPY (incl. tax) for first timers!
The staff do not speak foreign languages and reservations are required, so be sure to check their website in advance.

9. AEON Mall Sakai Kitahanada, MUJI
MUJI, which has numerous overseas locations, sells functional products with simple, streamlined designs. The largest MUJI store in the world is the Sakai Kitahanada store in AEON Mall that just reopened after renovations.
This store is distinguished by the wide selection of food items that they sell in addition to standard MUJI products such as stationary, clothing, and other miscellaneous items. There are fresh groceries as well as bento boxes and deli items that are convenient for travelers. There is also a food court where you can enjoy freshly baked bread and homemade yogurt.

10. EDGE THE HARUKAS - The New Attraction at Harukas 300
EDGE THE HARUKAS is not to be missed by anyone who loves high places. It is a thrilling attraction where participants wear harnesses to walk on a 60cm-wide, 20m-long deck newly built on top of the glass exterior of a 300m-high building. This is a great opportunity to stand at the edge of a skyscraper where you can see straight down below and enjoy a 360° panoramic view with no obstructions.
This is a wonderful experience for anyone who loves heights, but if you don't like high places, relax and enjoy the department store and restaurants in Abeno Harukas.
