Five Cafes in Osaka Where Adorable Animals Will Heal You!

Japan has animal cafes where you can directly engage with cute animals. In addition to those with cats and rabbits, there are some where you can play with owls, squirrels and even hedgehogs! Here are five such cafes in Osaka.

1. Neko no Jikan

This was the first cat cafe in Japan, and is located close to the Umeda area in central Osaka. Cats with beautiful fur will heal you in the Japanese-style cafe with tatami mats. If you want to spend some time there, the free time from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm is recommended. The cafe also has a branch in the Americamura area popular among fashionable youngsters. The Kita-honten main cafe is a 3-minute walk away from Nakazakicho Station.

60 minutes: Weekdays 1,100 JPY, holidays and weekends 1,200 JPY
Free time: 1,200 JPY (6:00 pm - 9:00 pm only, not offered on Saturdays)

2. Owl Family

This is a shop where you can play with owls. When you enter, you first receive a lecture about how to interact with owls, then you can spend your time having owls perched on your arm and taking pictures. Entrance is for 60 minutes and starts on the hour. The fee includes a drink, the opportunity to interact with owls, and photography. Reservations can be made online in Japanese, English or Chinese (traditional). It is located 7 minutes on foot from Minami-morimachi Station.
Rates
With a soft drink: 1,500 JPY
With an alcoholic beverage: 1,700 JPY

2. Owl Family

3. Small Animal Cafe ROCK STAR

This is a cafe where cute little animals will welcome you. In addition to hamsters and rabbits, the cafe has more unusual animals such as chipmunks, Japanese flying squirrels, and hedgehogs. There is no time limitation, so you can enjoy interacting with the cute animals for as long as you want. The cafe is located 5 minutes on foot from Namba Station on the Nankai Line. It is within walking distance of popular tourist spots, such as Dotonbori, so it's easy to stop by.

One drink (customers must order one drink): Drinks are 800 JPY and up

3. Small Animal Cafe ROCK STAR

4. Usa-yu

This is a shop where you can interact with a variety of different types of rabbits. You can play with them by petting their heads and bodies and feeding them. Some friendly rabbits may even sit on your lap. Photography is allowed and the entrance fee includes bottomless drinks. There are also game machines and massage chairs, so you can have a wonderfully relaxing time. It is located 5 minutes on foot from JR Ibaraki Station.

5. Neco Republic

This shop supports cat rescue activities, so you can support cat rescues just by playing with them. A five-story building was renovated as a facility for rescue cats, and the third floor was made into a cat cafe. It provides a healing space where customers can play with cute cats, but also searches for people to adopt the rescue cats. The other floors in the building offer a variety of ways of interacting with cats, including a nap room where you can nap with cats, and a shop of cat-related goods. It is located an 8-minute walk away from Shinsaibashi Station.
