Five Select Restaurants in Osaka with Great 500 JPY Lunches

If you want to keep lunch costs down, why not have a lunch for a single coin? This time, we introduce five select restaurants in Osaka with great lunches for 500 JPY.

1. Uchotensakaba Umeda Branch

This is an izakaya located two minutes on foot from Umeda Station that serves primarily seafood dishes in the evening. The lunch here that you can purchase for one 500 JPY coin are the Karaage Teishoku (500 JPY (incl. tax)) and Chicken Nanban Teishoku (500 JPY (incl. tax)). Both are hugely satisfying sets with rice, miso soup, salad and another dish. The restaurant has a full selection of other menu options as well, including ones that are only available at the weekend. It is open between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm for lunch, giving you plenty of time to get there.

2. Torame Yokocho

Walk three minutes from Namba Station and through a red torii gate into this alley that retains the atmosphere of Japan of the past. The alley has nine restaurants including an Italian restaurant and a sushi bar and you can sit in any of them and order food from any restaurant in the alley. The lunch available for one 500 JPY coin here includes the Horumon Mix Teishoku (500 JPY (incl. tax)) of offal with rice, soup and salad and the Motsu Nikomi Don (500 JPY (incl. tax)) offal rice bowl, both from Ogawa Shoten, and the Magurozukedon (500 JPY (incl. tax)), a bowl with tuna procured that day offered by Uohachi Shoten. There are many more lunch items for 1,000 JPY or less, as well as sake available at lunchtime, so it is recommended for people who like a drink with lunch.

3. Nidaime Katchan Kyobashi Main Branch

This is an izakaya that is located a two-minute walk from Kyobashi Station and offers most of its homemade dishes at the reasonable price of 250 JPY (excl. tax). The lunch available for 500 JPY between 11:30 am and 2:00 pm are the soba and udon noodles. Both the soba and udon or available as zaru (served cold and eaten dipped in a sauce), bukkake (boiled and served with sauce poured over it), or kake (served warm in a broth), each at 500 JPY (incl. tax). Toppings can be added for an extra cost. There is a variety of other dishes at 1,000 JPY or below, such as the Kamatama Soba and Kamatama Udon with egg, both of which are 550 JPY (incl. tax). There is free coffee with lunch, so enjoy it after your meal.

3. Nidaime Katchan Kyobashi Main Branch

4. Babbino

Babbino is recommended for those who want to enjoy lunch in a stylish environment. Lunch that is served between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm all come with a salad and soup. Lunch items for 500 JPY include the Baked Curry Doria (500 JPY (incl. tax)), of rice with bechamel sauce and large cuts of ingredients and the Pasta Lunch (500 JPY (incl. tax)) with a choice of Pepperoncini with Young Sardines, Tomato Basil Mozzarella Pasta and Pasta with Meat Sauce.

5. Taishutengoku Akafudasakaba

This is an izakaya that is always crowded thanks to its great prices with a glass of shochu highball costing just 190 JPY (excl. tax). The prices are just as good during lunchtime between 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm, with the Karaage Teishoku being just 380 JPY (excl. tax). In addition, the Chicken Nanban Lunch, Sauce Yakisoba Lunch, Gyoza Lunch and Tonkatsu Lunch are 500 JPY (excl. tax) each. The juicy deep-fried dishes are sure to fill both your stomach and heart up.

5. Taishutengoku Akafudasakaba

12-34 Sennichimae, Namba, Chuo-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka
