1. Kushikatsu, Yakitori Matsui

Kushikatsu, Yakitori Matsui, located close to Kyobashi Station, offers a tap beer, five skewers of kushikatsu or yakitori, and an appetizer for only 1,000 JPY until 5:00 pm. It is very popular with the locals and with office workers. Crisply fried kushikatsu coated in a thin batter are laid out on the counter and are re-fried once ordered. You can dip the kushikatsu in the sauce only once, as double dipping is not allowed. If you would like extra sauce, the custom is to use the free cabbage to scoop the sauce and pour it on the kushikatsu. The curry risotto, made with chicken curry and topped with a flavored omelet, is a dish that regulars recommend. This is a perfect dish for a “shime” (a light snack after drinking).

Other ala carte dishes like minced jack mackerel, flavored with miso, spring onion, shiso, and ginger as well as potato salad are also popular. This is a popular tachinomi bar owned by a shy master. This bar does not allow photos or talking on the phone. Although it is located in Namba, a downtown area, the food is priced between 100 to 200 JPY, while sake and wine are 200 JPY per glass, and beer, rare whiskies, and shochu are 400 JPY, which is unbelievably cheap. Pate, homemade with chicken liver, vegetables, wine, and spices, is 100 JPY. Tomato-stewed tongue, made with 2cm square, chunky pieces of beef tongue, is 200 JPY. There are many cheap and delicious homemade appetizers. There is a unique charging system. Once you get to the counter, you put some money in the basket provided. As the ordered food arrives, the master will deduct money from the basket. Therefore, it is best to bring some coins. This bar is recommended for those who like to taste various dishes without spending too much.

This tachinomi bar is the perfect place to relax after a tiring day. There are beer, shochu and four flavors of sake available. The food is provided at prices between 250 to 500 JPY. There are many unique dishes like the red ginger tempura (180 JPY), a local Kansai dish, and fried chicken with tartar sauce made with rakkyo pickles (450 JPY). Their distinct and delicious food attracts many regular customers. You might want to stay and savor your time there, but there is a poster banning lengthy stays. This is bar suited to drinking alone rather than coming with a group (a group of more than three people may be refused).
