Ishigaki Island is an island west of Okinawa. Here, we will introduce five selected locations where you can enjoy nature, cuisine, and other activities on Ishigaki Island.

1. Uganzaki Lighthouse (Scenery)

Uganzaki Lighthouse, a popular view point, stands in the north of the Uganzaki peninsula on the west side of Ishigaki Island. Although we cannot go inside the lighthouse, the view of rugged rock and bright blue sea from the precipitous cliff when you stand at the base of the lighthouse is thrilling. It is especially breathtaking while the sun is setting. There is an area of lawn by the lighthouse where you can spend a lazy, relaxing day until sunset, as the sight is stunning even during the day. The path to the lighthouse is up a gentle hill and is calming. However, the path to the tip of the cape can be a little rough, so we recommend wearing shoes that are easy to walk in.

2. Fusaki Beach (Activities)

Fusaki Beach is the best natural beach on Ishigaki Island where sea turtles come to lay eggs. It is a hotel-owned beach, but is open for both patrons and non-patrons. It is great to relax with hermit crabs on the beautiful white sand, or enjoy activities like snorkeling, dragon boating, kayaking, stand-up paddling, and many other fun options for both kids and adults. The exciting marine sports are even more impressive thanks to the transparent sea. When you're tired, you can take a break on the pure white sands. Due to its southwest location, Fusaki Beach offers an amazing view of the sunset. This is a place for those looking to experience dreamy days from morning to night, away from reality.

3. Nosoko Maapee (Activities, Scenery)

Thoughts of a holiday on Ishigaki Island might conjure a strong impression of the ocean, but one local recommendation is a mountain called Nosoko Maapee. Although it is small at a height of less than 300m, some say that the view from its summit is the finest on Ishigaki Island. It only takes about 20 min by the shortest route, but the track is not a mountain path, it is a jungle! A rope is used in some cases to climb through the thick vegetation. Clothing with full coverage is required even in summer, and comfortable shoes are essential. Also, extra caution is needed after rain or a storm as the tuff loam can become slippery. When you reach mountain top you can see a 360 degree panorama view with a mountain range to the north and coastline to the east and west. Time flies when you are captivated by this scene of magnificent green and endless blue. Please come and witness this with your own eyes.
