Great that they’re still open! 5 Restaurants in Naha, Okinawa Open Until Late at Night

One of the highlights of any trip is getting to taste the cuisine of the place you are visiting. However, some restaurants at major sightseeing spots close earlier than you’d expect. Now if you are ever in Naha, Okinawa, here are five recommended restaurants there that operate until late at night, something that will surely make you enjoy your trip even more.

1. Chisouan Ryukyumiebashi Branch

Chisouan is open until 3:00 am from Monday through Thursday, and until 5:00 am on Friday and Saturday. This izakaya (Japanese tavern) that is famous for its yakitori (grilled chicken) and shabu-shabu (a dish of thinly sliced meats and vegetables that are quickly boiled and then dipped in sauce before eating) is constantly crowded with customers, but locals outnumber the tourists. They serve all kinds of yakitori/kushiyaki (grilled chicken/grilled skewered meats), which is fresh meat prepared on the day it is served and then carefully grilled over charcoal fire, and it's priced at 300 JPY (excl. tax) for a 2-stick set. This restaurant’s collagen-rich Meibutsu Shironabe (special white hot pot) (1,800 JPY (excl. tax)) that is known for its white soup from slowly boiling chicken and vegetables is also a big hit here, especially with women.

2. Teppan/Okonomiyaki Hasu Okinawa Branch

Hasu is a hibachi joint with a luxurious feel that is open until 3:00 am. While there are private rooms available here, the counter seats where you can see the chefs at work are more recommended. The sight of the high-class Wagyu (Japanese beef) (1,280 JPY – 8,000 JPY (incl. tax)) and the Iki Ise Ebi (live spiny lobster) (14,800 JPY (incl. tax)) being grilled is truly intense and thrilling. Try its other exquisite dishes, too, such as the yakisoba (stir-fried soba noodles) (900 JPY – 1,260 JPY (incl. tax)) that is particular about the use of special noodles, and the okonomiyaki (savory pancake) (1,080 JPY (incl. tax)) that is characterized by the interesting texture of renkon (lotus root).

3. PIZZA BAR KomuGi Naha Kumoji Branch

PIZZA BAR KomuGi is an Italian bar that is open until 1:00 am from Tuesday until Thursday and on Sunday and holidays, and until 5:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Here, the Naples-style pizzas that are cooked in an ishigama stone kiln are highly recommended. Its most famous pizza is the Margherita (500 JPY (excl. tax)) which is loaded with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil. This restaurant also serves a wide array of ala carte dishes that go well with alcohol, including KomuGi Gensen! Eraberu Nama Hamu Moriawase (assorted hams) (500 JPY – 1,450 JPY (excl. tax)) and the Fish & Chips (750 JPY (excl. tax)).

3. PIZZA BAR KomuGi Naha Kumoji Branch

4. Cyuracyura Naha Kokusai-dori Branch

Cyuracyura is an izakaya (Japanese gastropub) where you can enjoy the local cuisine of Okinawa until 1:00 am from Monday until Thursday and on Sunday and holidays, and 3:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Located along Kokusai-dori, a popular sightseeing spot in the area, the interior of this shop sparkles in different hues from the various lights created by the Ryukyu glasses, a traditional art/craft of Okinawa. This Japanese tavern boasts of the consistent popularity of the Goya Chanpuru (734 JPY (incl. tax)) that is a famous Okinawan stir-fried dish. You also have to try the Agu-buta no Sumibiyaki Steak (charcoal grilled Agu pork steak) (1,706 JPY (incl. tax)) that is made from Okinawa’s very own Berkshire pork that is known for its low cholesterol content!

5. Omoro House

Open until 1:00 am from Monday through Thursday and on Sunday, and until 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday, Omoro House may be a Japanese-style izakaya, but it serves Japanese and Western dishes. For its Japanese cuisine, this place takes pride in the O-sushi Moriawase (assorted sushi) (1,500 JPY (excl. tax) for first-class and 1,980 (excl. tax) for premium-class) and the Yamashiro-gyu Sirloin Aburi-nigiri (roasted Yamashiro beef sirloin sushi) (680 JPY per piece (excl. tax)). As for Western dishes, the Hon-Zuwaigani no Noko Cream Risotto (thick and creamy risotto with snow crabs) (1,280 JPY (excl. tax)) is recommended. You can even pair that dish with the Kushiyaki Moriawase (assorted grilled meat on skewers) (1,180 JPY (excl. tax) for six sticks) from the izakaya menu that goes well with alcohol.
