One of Four Unique Convention-Defying Dishes Will Go to the Nationals! Neapolitan Stadium Tokai Contest

Kagome Neapolitan Stadium 2017 will be held on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, 2017. *"Napolitan" is a pasta dish unique to Japan in which spaghetti is stir-fried with onions, green peppers, and other vegetables in ketchup.

Kagome Neapolitan Stadium 2017 is an event to select the "No. 1 Secret Standout Neapolitan Spaghetti" that will overturn the image of "old-school Neapolitan spaghetti," a staple of Japanese kissaten cafe menus. Nine regional competitions are held (in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto Koshinetsu, Hokuriku, Tokai, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu), and restaurants that win the regionals will compete at the national competition held in Sky Arena on the fourth floor of Tokyo SKYTREE TOWN! The No. 1 Neapolitan masterpiece is chosen by a general audience who visit and taste the dishes, and votes cast online.

So this time, we introduce the Neapolitan spaghetti from four restaurants that entered the Tokai regionals.


First, we introduce Ankake Supa Ma Maison ESCA branch’s “Napoli An” (1,280 JPY). This is a dish in which the spaghetti with a thick ankake sauce melds perfectly with the sweetness of the ketchup. It is a filling dish that comes topped with a Salisbury steak that is the specialty of Ma Maison, a yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) restaurant with a history of more than 30 years!


Next we introduce KotoKotoYa & KotoKoto CAFE Nagakute branch’s “Skillet-Grilled Neapolitan Salisbury Steak ON” (1,058 JPY). Its specialty dish that was entered in Neapolitan Stadium 2013 and refined for entry again this year! It has a rich flavor made by a demi-glace sauce with hatcho miso as the secret ingredient, topped with a generous serving of cheese fondue.


Next is Oden & Wine Kamoshiya’s “Chinjao Neapolitan” (820 JPY). This is a new type of Neapolitan made with yakisoba noodles that was inspired by the Chinese Chinjao Rosu pepper steak. It has a unique flavor made by mixing tomato sauce and miso, and is also distinguished by the abundance of vegetables, including bell peppers.



Finally, we introduce Pasta de Coco Naka-ku Marunouchi Icchome branch’s “Okonomiyaki-style Neapolitan” (880 JPY). This is a Neapolitan spaghetti with a special ketchup made with okonomiyaki sauce,topped with more sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes, and aonori seaweed! The appetizing aroma that wafts from the grill and the steaming hot egg are irresistible!

The Tokai regionals, where these four dishes will come head to head, will be held at Port Walk Minato in Minato-ku, Nagoya from 13:00 on Sunday, March 26.
