Nagoya Station (Meieki) is the Chubu Region's largest terminal with many train lines, including the Tokaido Bullet Train. There are numerous places that serve great lunches nearby. This time, we introduce five select restaurants around Nagoya Station where you can have lunch for less than 1,000 JPY.
1. Miejin Meieki Branch
This is an izakaya restaurant that serves dishes made with ingredients from Mie, which is adjacent to Aichi. It offers a selection of five 1,000 JPY (incl tax) lunches: The Kishu Iwashimizu Pork Sukiyaki Bowl, with sweet-tasting pork; Ise Chicken Teriyaki Bowl, of deep-fried chicken karaage served with a homemade teriyaki sauce; Mie Fried Fish Bowl, with crispy deep-fried fresh fish; Ise Chicken Karaage Teishoku Set for those with an appetite; and Weekly Lunch with a different bowl every week. You'll have fun trying to decide which one to select.
2. UshiAburi Meieki Branch
This is a casual yakiniku restaurant-bar where you can enjoy wagyu beef from Aichi such as Dando Beef from the Dando Highlands to the east of Nagoya and Horai Beef from nature-rich Shinshiro. There is a selection of two items served at lunchtime: the Curry of Superior Grade Wagyu Kalbi and Local Vegetable (900 JPY (incl. tax) for regular serving; 1,000 JPY (incl. tax) for large) that comes with plenty of Dando Beef and local vegetables, and the Roast Beef Bowl with Soup (900 JPY (incl. tax) for regular serving; 1,000 JPY (incl. tax) for large), a rice bowl with healthy, lean meat. They are highly recommended for meat lovers!
3. Fukubuku
This is a restaurant that is particular about the producers of its rice, chicken, tofu, and sake, and the way that they are cooked. There are five lunch menu items for under 1,000 JPY: The Daily Gozen (880 JPY (incl. tax)), available on weekdays only; Fluffy and Creamy Oyako-don Bowl made with chicken and egg (900 JPY (incl. tax)); Tofu Bowl with Plenty of Vegetables (850 JPY (incl. tax)); Oroshi Tatsuta Gozen (980 JPY (incl. tax)); and the recommended Chicken Cutlet Gozen (980 JPY (incl. tax)). The Chicken Cutlet Gozen is an outstanding dish with crunchy yet juicy deep fried chicken.
4. EBIEAT
This is a Spanish-style bar-restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of shrimp dishes. You can even grab a lobster from the tank and have it cooked. There are four lunch menu items under 1,000 JPY: Mixed Paella (890 JPY (incl. tax)); Deep Fried Shrimp Set (850 JPY (incl. tax)); Curry of Simmered Beef Tendons (750 JPY (incl. tax)); and Curry with Deep Fried Shrimp (850 JPY (incl. tax)). There are also à la carte dishes, such as pasta and pizza, for below 1,000 JPY.
5. Pichiten Meiekinaka Branch
This is a seafood izakaya restaurant with a fish tank on site. There are six lunch menu items for below 1,000 JPY including: Daily Teishoku (880 JPY (incl. tax)); Stewed Mackerel Set (880 JPY (incl. tax)); Seafood Bowl (880 JPY (incl. tax)), Tempura Bowl (regular) (780 JPY (incl. tax)), and Tempura Bowl (premium) (880 JPY (incl. tax)). The recommended dish is the Japanese-Style Omelet Set (950 JPY (incl. tax)). It is an outstanding dish with the sweetness of the huge omelet enhanced by the grated daikon.
Nagoya Castle is about 10 minutes by taxi from Nagoya Station. Noritake Garden, a multi-purpose facility by the ceramics company, Noritake, is about 15 minutes on foot from Nagoya Station. Toyota Motors' Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology is about a 25-minute walk from Nagoya Station. Why not visit these sites after lunch?
