5 Recommended Places to Eat Champon Noodles at Nagasaki
Champon noodles are the representative dish of Nagasaki, with its thick noodles and other ingredients such as seafood, paste products, and vegetables. This article lists down some restaurants where you may enjoy some delicious Nagasaki Champon noodles.
1. Chinese Restaurant, Shikairou
This Chinese restaurant was established in 1899 and serves as the origin of Champon noodles in Nagasaki. The first generation owner of this restaurant started making Champon for exchange students who did not have enough money. Their vibrant Champon (972 JPY) topped with thinly-sliced omelette is a dish with lots of volume. This restaurant is located near Glover Garden, which makes it easy to access during your trip. From the 5th floor, you may have a view of the Nagasaki Harbor while dining. In the lower floors, you may find the "Champon Museum" (Free Entrance), which shows the history of the noodles, as well as shops that sell Nagasaki specialties, which makes the building itself an attraction.
This store was put up by a Chinese national who came to Japan. It is not the fanciest restaurant in the world but it certainly is a popular restaurant loved by the locals. This place is a must-try for those interested in Chinese atmosphere.
5. Kouzanrou Nagasaki China Town Main Branch
This Chinese restaurant is famous for their Champon and is located in Nagasaki China Town, one of the three major China Towns in Japan. They serve 3 types of Champon noodles. Among them is the popular dish "first class Champon" (1,500 JPY (excl. tax)), which includes a good array of ingredients and a delicious broth. They also have classic Chinese food such as shrimp with chili sauce and shark fin soup. It would be recommended to make a reservation if you are looking to have a slow dine-in, as the spacious restaurant comes with individual rooms where you may eat course meals.
