First in Uji! A Starbucks Opens on the Main Path to the World Heritage Site, Byodo-in!

The first Starbucks in Uji, Starbucks Coffee Kyoto Uji Byodo-in Omotesando Branch, will open on the main path to the World Heritage Site, Byodo-in, on Friday, March 31.

With a gable roof and a seating area under the eaves that evokes a Japanese-style open porch, this Starbucks is designed to blend in with the city of Uji. Here, you can enjoy coffee in a space that incorporates Japanese aesthetics, and is intended to be a calming place where you can be in your natural state.

Another special feature of this Starbucks is the beautiful garden that customers can enjoy while having a cup of coffee. Considerable thought has gone into maximizing enjoyment of the garden, starting with the numerous benches and windows, and including the height of the chairs and tables.

Customers can also enjoy seasonal scenery, such as the cherry blossoms along the path by Uji River and the foliage in Byodo-in.

The interior is adorned with items that incorporate Uji's traditional culture, such as artwork by a Kyoto lacquer artist with a lacquer base and burlap coffee bags and ornaments made from Uji tea boxes.
