Handy for Sightseeing! Five Select Rental Bicycle Shops Near Kyoto Station
Although major tourist attractions are located in various places around Kyoto, they are actually mostly within a relatively small area. Many people use the bus, but bicycles, on which you can travel without worrying about timetables or routes, are a recommended mode of transportation. Here are five select rental bicycle shops around Kyoto Station!
1. Kyoto Cycling Tour Project Kyoto Station Cycling Terminal
This is the rental cycle shop with the largest number of bicycles in Kyoto! It is also the closest rental cycle shop from the Karasuma Chuo entrance of JR Kyoto Station. In addition to Kyoto Station, they have cycling terminals in four locations including Kawaramachi and Kinkakuji, so it's possible, for example, to rent at Kyoto Station and return at Kinkakuji (an extra 400 JPY is added when returning at a different location). They also offer cycling tours that will take you to major tourist spots or on an adventure around the back streets.

2. Kyoto ECO Trip
This is a rental cycle shop in a convenient location, just one minute on foot from the Hachijo exit of Kyoto Station. They offer a variety of services, such as luggage delivery to your hotel (+500 JPY) and bicycle delivery (delivery and collection) to your hotel (+300 JPY and up)! They also provide a free original map that includes bicycle parking areas, public bathrooms, and areas where bicycling is restricted. All staff members speak English, so you can ask them for advice about places to visit.

3. Kyoto Miyabiya
This is a rental shop on the east side of Higashi Honganji Temple, five minutes on foot from Kyoto Station. They have 23 different types of bicycles, including city bikes, electric assist bicycles, mountain bikes and road bikes. They also offer a variety of services such as a free tourist map and mineral water or gloves for people who have reserved in advance, discounts for people renting for two or more consecutive days, and free raincoats on rainy days. If you are renting both an adult and child bike, the child bike (usually 1,000 JPY) is half off!

3. Kyoto Miyabiya

4. Kyoto Rental Bicycle Fuune
This is a rental shop five minutes on foot from the Chuo entrance of Kyoto Station. It has a wide variety of bicycles from electric assist bikes to cross bikes and tandem bikes. Users are given free tourist maps and can also rent backpacks for free. If you are staying in the city of Kyoto, you can rent the bike till 10:00 am the following morning (excluding electric assist bikes). If you are renting after 4:00 pm, you can rent till the shop closes the next day for a one-day fee.

4. Kyoto Rental Bicycle Fuune

5. Rupo Rupo Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi Parking Lot
This rental shop is in the Kyoto Station Hachijoguchi Parking Lot on the B2 floor of Kyoto Avanti, a commercial multiplex at the south side (Hachijo exit) of Kyoto Station. They only have 15 bicycles, which are all city bicycles with three gears, so it is better to reserve in advance (reservations can be made online). If you rent in a group of four or more, you can get a group discount (100 JPY off).

5. Rupo Rupo Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi Parking Lot
