[Kyoto Sightseeing] 3 New Lavish Matcha Parfaits with Premium Matcha Inside
Amid the debut of matcha-based sweets and pastries one after another during the summer season, it seems that the matcha parfait has developed even further! Double the matcha sensation with a bittersweet sauce!
Eirakuya Kissashitsu has updated its classic matcha parfait. The matcha sensation of its parfait is now doubled thanks to the addition of a thick matcha sauce at the bottom of the dish. Further, from having just one whole piece of chestnut, the new parfait features a sprinkling of chopped chestnuts, and is topped with brown sugar syrup and kinako (soy flour), transforming it in terms of texture, sweetness and flavor!
This is the Raku/Matcha Parfait (1,080 JPY). It is a luxurious matcha dish that comes with fragrant gyokuro (high-class green tea) ice cream and Uji matcha jelly. The huge shiratama dumplings (rice flour dumpling) on top are chewy and really filling.
This is the sauce that uses the matcha from Kyoto’s Irokuen. Its hatomugi (a type of grain) millet has a wonderful crunchy texture.
It has a space where the wind blows through. If you come on a weekend, prepare to wait, though, as this spot can get really crowded.

Sugitora has become the talk of the town owing to its parfait that uses smooth gelato made by Shinichi Sugita, who won the silver medal in the La Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie (World Pastry Cup) in 2015. The langue de chat is surprisingly filled with a wide array of flavors.
This is the Matcha Parfait (1,300 JPY). It is topped with hojicha (roasted green tea) gelato, and has matcha jelly, crème brulee, and brown sugar granité inside.
The inside of the langue de chat is packed with six kinds of sweets, with matcha gelato as base.
There are eight flavors of gelato sold at the first floor of this shop. The price of a single scoop starts at 400 JPY.
A rich parfait with the marked boldness of matcha that is created by the omotenashi spirit of a restaurant
The teahouse Salon de Muge was opened by Kikunoi, a Kyoto cuisine restaurant that was established in 1912. During teatime in the afternoon, guests get to taste desserts and sweets with a quality on par with those served in a ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant that is usually luxurious), such as desserts that change every month that are also served at Kikunoi, and parfaits that are carefully made with generous amounts of the best kind of Uji matcha.
This is the Muge Sanbo Koi Matcha Parfait (strong matcha parfait) (1,300 JPY). It is a fusion of rich matcha ice cream with the concentrated inherent aroma and mellow sweetness of matcha, and refreshing matcha jelly, sesame seed sponge cake, shiratama and azuki beans. It is available all throughout the year.
The homemade matcha ice cream made with 80g of the finest matcha per liter of milk has a truly satisfying rich taste!
When you enter the shop, you will see a garden that is colored in different hues every season, including sakura (cherry blossoms) in the spring and momiji (autumn foliage) in the fall. The green flooring with Oribe-yaki ceramic tiles is pretty impressive.
