Nihon Odori: A Collaboration of Historic Buildings & Picturesque Ginkgo Trees (Nihon Odori, Yokohama City)
Known as the first Western-style avenue to ever be built in Japan, Nihon Odori is lined with ginkgo trees that have golden leaves in the autumn. The fusion of historic buildings – such as the Yokohama Archives of History – with the ginkgo trees creates a classic scene that looks like it came from a postcard. This beautiful townscape received the Best Landscape Award (Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award) in 2011. The best time to view the autumn foliage here is from late November till mid-December.
Oiso Joyama Park: The Inverted Autumn Foliage on the Pond is a Must-See (Oiso, Oiso Town)
This is a park that was built on top of the Mitsui Financial Group’s former villa. It is known for the autumn foliage created by the 538 maple trees on its premises. The contrast between the red of the momiji trees and the green of the bamboo grove is truly gorgeous. The park will be illuminated from November 23rd (public holiday) until November 26th (Sun), which is bound to make it appear even more beautiful. The best time to view the autumn leaves here is from late November until early November. There are also performances that are slated to be held at 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM on November 25th and 26th (Saturday and Sunday).
Sounzan: Viewing Autumn Leaves in Midair (Sounzan, Hakone Town)
If you take the ropeway from Sounzan Station, you will get to Togendai Station, the last stop on the route, in about 25 minutes. You will be able to enjoy the autumn leaves of Hakone while gliding in the air! Aside from lakes and ponds, you can also see Mt. Fuji on a clear day, so there is no doubt that you will be impressed by the magnificent nature spread out before you! The best time to view the autumn leaves here is from early November until mid-November.
Lake Tanzawa: Interact with Locals During the Festival (Shin-Matsuda, Yamakita Town)
Colorful autumn leaves are vividly reflected on the emerald green waters of Lake Tanzawa. During the Nishi-Tanzawa Momiji Matsuri (Nishi-Tanzawa Autumn Foliage Festival) that will be held on November 18th (Sat), you will get to enjoy the stunning autumn leaves while sitting with the locals around a hot pot. The best time to view the autumn foliage here is from mid-November until late November.
