5 Specialty Restaurants and Cafeterias in Yokohama with Delicious Food

Yokohama, which is located by the entrance of the sea, is easily accessible from Haneda Airport, and is therefore a popular spot for both locals and foreigners alike. Here are 5 specialty restaurants you should visit when you get hungry while going around the popular spots in the area.

1. Yokohama Itadaki Shokudo

This is a wine bar where you can enjoy dishes made with ingredients from Kanagawa. This bar prides itself on its 6-dish 3,000 JPY (incl. tax) course (including dessert) which is composed of handmade uncured ham from Fujisawa, local fish, local vegetables, Yokosuka sausages - all of which show the charms of Kanagawa. For lunch, it would be recommended to try the "Daily Itadaki Bar Plate" (1,000 JPY (incl. tax)). This exquisite set of dishes is made up of two main dishes, such as ratatouille and fried eggs from the Miura Peninsula, along with local fish carpaccio.

This restaurant has a concept of food that is delicious and easy on the stomach. Here you can enjoy exquisite dishes that are made with ingredients such as organic vegetables grown on their company farm in Tokushima, Awa beef from Japanese Black Cattle, and fresh, seasonal fish from the Seto Inland Sea. One of their special dishes includes the "Awa-Odori Herb Roast Chicken" (1,300 JPY (excl. tax)), which has been cooked on low heat. Another famous dish that people come back for would be the "Marugoto (Whole) Onion Gratin Soup" (780 JPY).

3. Daidokonjo Horumon

This restaurant mainly serves original courses that make use of locally grown vegetables in Yokohama. The "Meibutsu! Do Konjo Salad" (950 JPY (incl. tax) for 350g) is an exquisite dish that ensures you get your required amount of vegetables for one day in one plate. Their meat dishes such as the "horumon" (offal) are well-loved by customers who consider themselves horumon connoisseurs. It would be recommended to try the sirloin steak rice bowl for lunch (800 JPY (incl. tax)) or for dinner (900 JPY (incl. tax)). If you add 200 JPY (Thursdays, Fridays) or 400 JPY (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays) for lunch, you get an extra piece of steak.

4. Umaya no Shokutaku

Yokohama is where the first Japanese beer was created. Umaya no Shokutaku is located in the brewery where they continue this tradition of manufacturing "Yokohama beer." The tasting set, made up of 5 types of beer, for 1,600 JPY, is a great way to get a taste of the delicious, homemade beer. The exquisite line-up of dishes that they serve here made using local Kanagawa ingredients would also go great with the beer. You may also choose from 3 dishes from the dinner menu when trying out the "one plate lunch" (1,000 JPY).

4. Umaya no Shokutaku

5. Hiratsuka

This is an Italian bar where you may enjoy dishes made with fresh fish caught from the Shonan Bay at the southern part of Kanagawa, facing the Pacific Ocean, as well as wine from different parts of the world, selected especially by the head of the store. Try the "Hiratsuka Aqua Pazza" (1,220 JPY (excl. tax)), if you would like a taste of the flavorful seafood they serve. Another famous dish would be the "Hiratsuka Fish & Chips" (740 JPY (excl. tax)) that is made of fried local fish. How about trying the "Shonan Shirasu Whitebait and Perilla Leaf Port City-style Pasta" (980 JPY (excl. tax))?
