Eat in Kobe! Top 5 Shops with Delicious Kobe Beef
It is said that the distinct sweetness and delectable flavor make Kobe beef the finest in the world. It is definitely something you should try when you go sightseeing in Kobe. Below are five of the best restaurants in Kobe that serve tasty Kobe beef.
1. Kobe Beef Miyabi
This is a steak restaurant that is housed in a renovated old Japanese-style house. By purchasing whole cattles raised on the famous Nakanishi Farm, they can allow customers to savor quality Kobe beef at reasonable prices. The recommended item here is the Kobegyu to 7-Shoku no Hyogoken-san Jiyasai ga Tanoshimeru Miyabi Course (prices start at 5,300 JPY (prices vary depending on the type of meat)). Customers will get to choose which parts of the cow they want to eat, and then enjoy their selections with local seasonal vegetables. This is a popular course among international tourists. Reservations are required, and customers will have to choose between two slots upon reservation: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM or 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM. You can also consult with the shop if you want to reserve the whole place!
2. Kobe Steak Sai-Dining
This is a restaurant that has adopted a style wherein all the seats are counter seats, and the chefs cook on an iron plate in front of the customers. They only buy A5 grade, award-winning beef to ensure that guests savor only the best meats available. The Kobegyu Course (Kobe Beef Course) (prices start at 8,000 JPY (excl. tax)) comes with potage soup made with ingredients handpicked by the vegetable sommelier, fresh seafood appetizers, and other dishes. Aside from steak courses, it is also recommended to try the Kobegyu Hamburger (1,500 JPY (excl. tax) for a la carte), which uses 100% Kobe beef and is only available for lunch. After your meal, you can leave your counter seat and move to the cafe booth to spend the rest of your time luxuriously.
3. Wakkoqu Shin-Kobe Branch
This is a counter seat-style restaurant where Kobe beef is grilled using the restaurant’s original method. The taste of the dishes at Wakkoqu is determined by the maturity of the carefully chosen Kobe beef. For your first bite of steak that was carefully grilled in the same way as their finest ingredients, use the salt that the chef recommends. You won’t be able to get enough of the deliciousness, sweetness, and meat juices that will fill your mouth! The dinner course is priced from 12,400 JPY (incl. tax), and the Ohiru no Wakkoqu Course is a great deal for lunch at 5,880 JPY (incl. tax). The shop is a minute’s walk from Shin-Kobe Station, and also within walking distance from the famous sightseeing destination, Kitano Ijinkan (a district filled with Western-style residences), so you can easily drop by during your trip.
This is a counter seat-style restaurant where only handpicked Kobe beef sirloin and fillet are grilled on the iron plate in front of the seats. Rather than using meat with a lot of fat, they opt for only meats that have a good balance of lean meat and marbled meat. Master chefs take charge of everything - from preparation up to cooking - so the high quality of everything is kept constant. The course is Italian-based and costs 9,000 JPY (incl. tax). Since it is a full course that has Kobe beef steak, the price is a real bargain! Enjoy the thrilling performance of the chefs, along with the refined taste of Kobe beef.
5. Kobe Beef Yazawa Hankyu Sannomiya Branch
This is a specialty restaurant that picks out the top Kobe cow from a specific farm, buys it, and then serves it as top quality Kobe beef to customers. Aside from steak, this shop offers three other ways to enjoy Kobe beef: yakishabu (grilled thinly sliced beef), sukiyaki (thinly sliced beef cooked with various ingredients in soy sauce-based stock), and shabu-shabu (thinly sliced meat boiled quickly and then dipped in a sauce before eating). Their great value courses are priced as low as 3,900 JPY (excl. tax) (weekdays only, and requires reservation). When you order a steak (prices start at 2,500 JPY (excl. tax)), you will have to choose the part of the cow and weight (in grams) that you desire. It will be served as a set with salad, soup, and other dishes. For lunch, Set A (rice, salad, and soup) (800 JPY (excl. tax)) doesn’t cost extra, so it’s a superb deal! This restaurant is recommended to those who want to enjoy Kobe beef in ways other than steak.
