New Chitose Airport is the entrance to Hokkaido, and there are plenty of souvenirs that make the best of Hokkaido's characteristics. Here are 5 souvenirs that are delicious and would make anyone happy!

1. Kitakaro's Hokkaido Kaitaku Okaki

Hokkaido Kaitaku Okaki is made only with the best Hokkaido ingredients. Okaki is mochi rice cakes cut small, dried, then baked and fried in oil. Usually it isn't sweet, so it's a good snack for those who prefer savory flavors. This okaki is made with traditional techniques that take 7 days to complete, and it's smooth yet crunchy texture is addicting. The Hokkaido salt brings out the best flavors of the snack, so you'll end up eating a bag in a sitting without realizing it!
It's great with liquor, and it would be delicious to eat this okaki along with scallops or kombu seaweed for a great break. The okaki comes in 7 flavors, including Esashi scallop, Erimo kombu, and Mashike sweet shrimp. They also often have limited edition flavors. 2. HORI's Toukibi Chocolate

Toukibi Chocolate is a famous Hokkaido snack made by covering a crunchy corn puff with high-quality white chocolate that melts in your mouth and brings out the sweetness of the corn.
Outside of the standard Toukibi Chocolate, you can also find flavors such as Toukibi Chocolate Yubari Melon, Toukibi Chocolate Hokkaido Strawberry, Toukibi Chocolate Premium made with hazelnuts, Toukibi High Milk Chocolate made with couverture chocolate, and more. One bag is only 360 JPY (incl. tax) for 10 pieces, so it's a very reasonable price. Each piece is individually wrapped so it's easy to eat and is great to carry as snacks throughout your trip! 3. ROYCE' Ganache

ROYCE' is a famous Hokkaido chocolate maker and one of their most recommended products is their Ganache. The smooth, velvety chocolate melts in your mouth almost the second you eat it, covering your tongue in a gentle sweetness. The standard flavor Ganache Ole uses Western liquor, so if you want one that children can enjoy as well keep an eye out for Ganache Mild Cacao. Ganache Match and seasonally-limited Ganache Strawberry (all 778 JPY (incl. tax)) are also popular.
It's a product that needs refrigerating, and even though the shop will give you ice packs to keep it cool, it isn't suitable for transporting for a long time or in the hot summer. ROYCE' Ganache is meant to be eaten soon after purchase. You can buy all of these products at ROYCE' company store in New Chitose Airport. You can also stop by Royce' Chocolate World on the third floor where they have a chocolate factory.

4. Rokkatei's Marusei Butter Sandwich

Marusei Butter Sandwich (630 JPY (incl. tax) for 5), is a biscuit made with specially-chosen wheat, butter made from 100% Hokkaido milk, white chocolate cream, and raisins. It's such a popular souvenir in Japan, that it's almost synonymous with Hokkaido and it's a long-seller. The texture and size makes it satisfying after just one, and it goes great with coffee or tea, so it's perfect for a relaxed tea time! If also delicious chilled, so definitely pick it up as a souvenir! The shelf life is about 9-10 days.

5. Hanabatake Bokujo's Nama Caramel

Hanabatake Bokujo's Nama Caramel caused a rush in Japan thanks to its soft texture that melted in your mouth and changed the Japanese idea of caramel.
