5 Recommended Child-Friendly Restaurants and Cafes in Hokkaido
If you have a small child, it could be difficult to relax and dine in peace. Here are five child-friendly restaurants and coffee shops in Hokkaido where you can bring strollers. Some of them also have kids' rooms, so you can have a pleasant meal.
First on the list is Minchetta, in the Nishi-ku area of Sapporo. It is famous for their charcoal-grilled thick-sliced Japanese Black beef steaks (starting at 1,280 JPY (excl. tax)) and juicy hamburgers. Inside this restaurant is a bright, expansive space that is perfect for people of all ages. This restaurant is also particular about the ingredients it uses, as it uses only high-quality Japanese Black beef. The food is served on a piping hot iron plate. Minchetta also offers a kids' menu including steak or hamburger (both 680 JPY (excl. tax)) so the kids will also be fully satisfied.
They have kid-sized chairs and coloring books as well.
This restaurant is connected to Kururu-no-Mori, a farm located in Kitahiroshima where guests can experience connecting with food and agriculture. At Nouson Restaurant, they offer a lunch buffet on weekends and buffet for both lunch and dinner on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays (adult price is 1,700 JPY for lunch and 2,000 JPY for dinner). The buffet table offers around 70 kinds of simple and warm home cooking meals. The vegetables are so delicious that they might conquer your kid’s hatred of vegetables! Children 3 years old and under can eat for free, while children younger than elementary school age are only charged 500 JPY. This restaurant is very popular and there will probably be a line, so it would be best to make a reservation well ahead of time.
Baby strollers are allowed inside the restaurant. There are also children's seats and tableware, a nursing room, and a diaper changing area.

3. Rojiura Curry Samurai Hiragishi Branch
Rojiura Curry Samurai in Toyohira is a shop where you can enjoy one of Sapporo’s specialties, soup curry (starting at 980 JPY). The soup is meticulously cooked in order to bring forth a rich taste thanks to the delicious condensed flavors and sweetness of the ingredients. There is a wide variety of dishes available, including soup curries with chicken, seafood, or vegetables inside, and all these dishes are served with various vegetables on the side. For children, you can order a kids' curry (480 JPY) that is not spicy.
There are also raised seats so you can easily bring babies along. They also allow baby strollers inside. Further, children can enjoy picture books and toys, as well as children's seats and their own tableware.

4. Emon's chouchou
Emon’s chouchou is a standalone cafe and bar in Susukino. The recommended dishes are the Chouchou Plate Lunch (1,100 JPY (incl. tax)) and the Yoru Cafe Plate (starting at 1,800 JPY (inc. tax)), both of which come with side dishes that change daily. You can also try their different types of pasta, pancakes, and a long list of other dishes on the menu. This restaurant has two floors, a colorful and fun 1st floor and a Japanese modern atmosphere complete with tatami mat flooring on the 2nd. There is even a space especially for kids aged 0-6 years old.
You can bring your own baby food. This restaurant has a kid’s menu, children's seats, baby beds, and a diaper changing area.
5. New Sanko Otaru Aquarium Branch
New Sanko is a restaurant located inside Otaru Aquarium that will let you eat with a view of the ocean. You can try the ramen (starting at 790 JPY (incl. tax)) made with locally produced wheat, or the yakisoba made with seafood and a thick sauce (880 JPY (incl. tax)). The cute lunches (each 700 JPY (incl. tax)) based on motifs such as the aquarium’s popular walrus Tsurara-chan and turtle Taro-kun will surely make every kid happy! There is a nursing room and a diaper changing area inside the aquarium, so you don’t need to worry if you bring your baby.
The restaurant also allows baby strollers inside. New Sanko enforces a no-smoking policy for the entire restaurant.
