Top 5 Instagenic Sweets in Fukuoka

There is a trend among women of today to take pictures of photogenic sweets and desserts and upload them on Instagram. So, here are some of the cute and delicious sweets available in Fukuoka that you will find yourself wanting to upload on social media.

NOYU

NOYU is a shop specializing in tarts that is located right at the entrance to an alley that is just 5 minutes away from Sakurazaka Station in the subway’s Nanakuma Line by foot. Famous, especially with women, this shop is constantly packed with customers.

The display cases here are lined with a wide array of pastries, from the classic items, up to the limited-time seasonal tarts that use fruits in season. Of all its desserts, the most famous one is the NOYU Ichigo Tart (strawberry tart) (480 JPY) that uses mascarpone mousse on a coconut base. It is such a cute standard dessert that features an arrangement of strawberries that have been cut into little pieces. Regular customers, though, love the Sakurazaka Apple (450 JPY) that has been available since the first day the shop opened. There are baked apples inside and apple compote outside, so you will taste two kinds of flavors. You are bound to find its appearance, which resembles the Sakurazaka hill, cute for sure.

Photogenic tarts available at this shop are all created based on the ideas of Mr. Nomura, its owner who is a pastry chef. He loves walking while eating, and not just sweets, and he claims to have gotten the ideas for his tarts from the inspirations he felt during those walks.

Inside the shop, there are counter seats and the tatami space WAYU, and customers are welcome to use them to eat the tarts that they purchased. There is also an extensive drinks menu, so please take your time and savor their tarts inside this cozy shop.

A lot of fans of sweets frequent this shop in search of éclairs that are so beautiful you won’t be able to decide which one to have. Its display racks are always filled with around 10 types of éclairs, including limited-period sweets, that combine a wide selection of ingredients and free ideas in all genres.

Here, the Pistachio (320 JPY) with the refreshing aroma of pistachio cream and lemon is the No. 1 bestseller. Different product lineups also come out every season and the Hachimitsu Lemon (honey lemon) (300 JPY) that is only available in spring and summer has this mild sweetness in the lemon custard and honey that makes it popular with customers of all ages.

There is a unified atmosphere inside the shop, with the iron shelves and other pieces of furniture making the éclairs look even more beautiful. You can also ask them about cakes and other desserts you want to order.

Mr. Tokuyama, its pastry chef owner, said that, “I want to put a smile on everyone’s faces with our eclairs.” There is not doubt that the colorful eclairs from this shop are the perfect present and souvenir that will make those who receive them very happy.

Ivorish Fukuoka Honten

Ivorish Fukuoka Honten will treat you to exquisite French toast that you can only find in a specialty shop which is very particular about the ingredients and cooking methods it uses. The secret behind the delicious taste of the French toast from this shop is the special bread that was developed exclusively for use in French toast. You will be hooked to the moist and juicy texture of the French toast that is carefully soaked in eggs.

Here, you can enjoy French toast in its simple form by ordering the Plain (1,000 JPY) type. It will be served with French toast straight out the pan, topped with a simple ice cream and whipped cream made from Jersey cow milk, if you want. You will be able to relish the delicious taste of French toast straight from the fusion of the buttery flavors and the mild taste of milk.

Aside from the Fukuoka Honten, there are two other branches of Ivorish: the Shibuya Shop (Tokyo) and the Ebina Shop (Kanagawa). Each of these shops serves their own original French toasts. The menus change every 2-3 months depending on the season and event, so you just might find something new to love whenever you visit.

There are counter seats on the 1st floor and table seats on the 2nd floor, so this shop can accommodate lone customers, up to big groups. It is usually crowded with women customers, but you can reserve seats or tables from 6:00 pm to 8:45 pm, so you won’t have to worry about waiting for a seat. Note that this shop does not serve the sweet type of French toast only, as it also has the meal-type savory French toasts that use meat and vegetables, so you can definitely come here for dinner, too.

DESSER+T

DESSER+T is a New York-style open cafe that is located in the 2nd basement floor of SOLARIA Plaza, inside the stylish area where DEAN & DELUCA and other shops that originated overseas stand side by side. Customers can eat inside the shop or take out the cute-looking sweets that are made by hand by the shop’s pastry chefs.

The highlight of this shop is the colorful Ice Cream Jar that is inside a glass bottle. Filled with seasonal fruits, sponge cake, ice cream and other stuff loved by women, it is a totally new kind of dessert that is neither a parfait nor a cake. There are five types of this delight as of July 2017, but they plan to continue to make more in the future.

Their baked pancakes that are made in the open kitchen are also recommended. The Pancake Celeb is a filling dish wherein the pancakes are topped with blueberry, kiwi, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, orange and many other fruits, and whipped cream.

For take-out, the BAKE with a rich layer of cheese is the most popular. It offers the superb harmony of five layers of flavors and the crunchy texture of cookie. Aside from that, there are many different kinds of cakes on the display counters, including fruit tarts and egg tarts. They are perfect for gifts, so try to drop in while you are shopping.

Shelly Beach~by Manly Australian Cafe&Bar~

Shelly Beach~by Manly Australian Cafe&Bar~ is a cafe and dining bar with Australia as theme. Here, the popular Apple Pie (1,000 JPY) is a dish that was passed on from Cafe Pour Vous, a cafe that operated in the same spot in the past. It comes with freshly baked crispy pie, topped with homemade vanilla ice cream to achieve exquisite balance. The moment it is served on your table is the perfect chance to take a photo of this dish! For sauce, you can choose from chocolate, caramel and W sauce.

Another popular dish at this spot is the Ricotta Cheese Pancake (1,000 JPY), which is also a big hit at its sister shop Manly. You will be addicted to its soft, fluffy texture that will let you eat the pancakes without needing a knife. Ricotta cheese has a low fat content even though it is sweet, so this is the recommended dessert that women, in particular, just love.

As its name Shelly Beach suggests, its highlight is its space that will make you feel like you have come to a pleasant marine beach. There is also a DOG FOOD MENU, so guests can come with their pets.
