Kogenta, located near Hakata Station, is a diner run by an established seafood store with more than 30 years of history. Carefully selected seafood, caught on the day, can be enjoyed at incredibly reasonable prices. The recommended dish is the whole Yobuko squid sashimi (prices differ by volume, from 1,500 JPY). A popular dish of this restaurant is the fresh seafood hamayaki which you can grill at your table. The seafood in the hamayaki is offered at cheap prices, like sazae (turbon shell) at 580 JPY and awabi (abalone) at 1,000 JPY. The hamayaki combo (2,680 JPY) is recommended for those who would like to have vegetables and meat in addition to seafood. Enjoy the quality taste that can only be experienced with fresh seafood you grill yourself, with minimum seasoning to emphasize the pure flavor.

3. Yoriaidokoro Tsushima
The building of this restaurant is a 100 year old house transported from Tsushima. At Yoriaidokoro Tsushima, delicious seafood and sake can be enjoyed in an interior which has a historical appearance, with a fireside and thick beams. There are some unique dishes offered at reasonable prices, like the squid's mouth boiled in soy sauce (500 JPY (incl. tax)), and the limited-time-only goose barnacles (500 JPY (incl. tax)). Yoriaidokoro Tsushima is located only a 5 min walk from Hakata Station.

Hakata Hyotei is a restaurant with a high-class atmosphere, where you can enjoy your food in a private room (from 2 to 120 people) with a view of a Japanese garden. The popular squid sashimi directly from Yobuko (from 2,800 JPY (incl. tax)) has a firm and almost crunchy texture, a signature of fresh squid. Parts of the squid which are not used for sashimi will be used in tempura with squid ink. In winter their famous pot dish with rare kue fish, O-Ara (Kue) Nabe (for two or more people, 5,000 JPY per person (incl. tax)), can be enjoyed. This restaurant is perfect for those who would like to indulge in fresh seasonal Kyushu ingredients in a relaxing atmosphere.
5. Hakata Uogashi Ichiba Kaikan Branch
Hakata Uogashi Ichiba Kaikan Branch is a restaurant located in the Fukuoka fish market (or the Nagahama fish market), a market with the 4th largest volume of seafood trade. There are plenty of dishes to choose from, and it is not uncommon to see lines forming outside. Above all, the cheap and fresh kaisen-don (650 JPY) is of guaranteed quality, having won a gold prize in the Japan Don Grand Prix in the seafood-don division. The seafood used for the kaisen-don will depend on availability. Nevertheless, it is very famous for its quality and the opportunity to eat fresh seasonal seafood. Popular seafood can sell out, so it is wise to get there early.
